This is a tasting room only — not to be confused with the resort, spa, restaurant, and winery in Uco Valley. Good wine list, good service, but small facility that closes early and has limited food available. Apparently this used to be located in the Park Hyatt but is now a few blocks away. When we stopped in they were doing a presentation in the main room for prospective investors in the winery, so we sat in the bar area for a glass or 2 of vino tinto. You an order glasses of many wines that are otherwise only available by the bottle, which is really the only thing that this place has to offer. One note to management — the bar stools are almost unbearable as the lack foot rests. Caused us to leave earlier than anticipated.

If you’re going to Mendoza, presumably you’re going to spend time, maybe a lot of it, wine tasting. Going out to the vineyards is amazing. Beautiful countryside, really knowledgeable people, but very very time consuming(your typical guided wine tour is eight plus hours in Mendoza). Alternatively go to Vines of Mendoza in the center of the city and you’ll get a first class experience with very knowledgeable wine experts and an incredibly broad selection of wines from not just the area surrounding Mendoza but other parts of Argentina. The space is small, but extremely well polished with a modern appearance in décor and style. There are several tables as well as about twelve seats at the bar. If you want a table for your wine tasting — make reservations ahead of time. I went two nights in a row and both times the tables were full. The staff are extremely familiar with wine, love talking about it, and well versed in several languages. I had no problem having a lengthy conversation about the nature of the soil, history of the grapes, etc with our server. He was was fantastic. They are excellent in helping you select your wine to taste. We would have samples of three or four wines before choosing which one we wanted to have a class of. The pours are generous as well. Lastly, one other benefit is that they make shipping bottles home incredibly easy. To certain areas such as California they even have some of the wines available in a warehouse in the state which if you select those makes shipping cheap and easy. Not withstanding that advantage you can pretty much ship wherever you want to and they can easily take care of it. Vines is the place to taste in the city of Mendoza if you only have an evening or don’t want to spend time out at the wineries themselves.

The Vines of Mendoza has several locations — two tasting rooms in downtown Mendoza, and a winery in Uco Valley with a resort/spa and restaurant(Siete Fuegos by Francis Mallman, legendary Chef in Argentina). Ironically, this company was started as a joint effort between someone from the US and a famous winemaker in Argentina. The business model behind Vines is incredibly genius. They sell and maintain plots of land for people to grow their own grapes, and act as a middle man for people to blend and bottle their wine, or resell their wine or grapes. The Vines of Mendoza at Belgrano, is one of their tasting rooms that I would highly recommend you visit(the other is in the Park Hyatt but I doubt it is as extensive, though I haven’t been). I’ve been to countless wineries and tasting rooms and cannot speak more highly of Vines of Mendoza — the curation of the wines is incredible, the service is super friendly. It’s a great one stop shop if you’re looking to discover wines in Mendoza, I suggest you pay a visit on your first day just to get your bearings of what wines/wineries you might like. Tuesdays are happy hour, Wednesdays you get to meet resident wine experts and hear them speak. They also serve bread, cheese and meat plates. I also did the Vines of Mendoza wine blending experience at Uco Valley. The vineyards are like Disneyland for adults. I have never seen such a large winery and have not been so impressed by how well they have kept their grounds. It’s quite a trek, but worthwhile if you’re heading to Uco Valley(reservations via email on website). It is one of the most luxurious spa/resorts, maybe one day I’ll get an opportunity to stay there. But until then for the regular folk, make sure to visit both the Uco Valley and tasting room at Vines of Mendoza.
