Adelaide Travellers Inn is not just a friendly, comfortable place for backpackers to stay, it’s also a handy internet café and travel centre. And it’s a handy starting point for people wanting to explore South Australia on a budget because it is one of Adelaide City Bikes’ ‘nodes’ where you can hire bicycles for free. There’s a wide range of travel brochures and you can book a tour with the staff member at the desk. The internet café is reasonably priced has printing options available, although not A3, as I discovered. The free bike hire is a great Adelaide City Council initiative for a cleaner, greener city and has proved hugely popular. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis so get in quick. All you need is your current driver’s licence or passport. Your ID is held as a deposit and given back to you upon your return. Other nodes in Adelaide are Adelaide City Council, 25 Pirie Street; Bicycle SA, 111 Franklin Street; Adelaide Convention Centre, North Terrace and Backpack Oz 144 Wakefield Street. Adelaide Meridien, 21 – 39 Melbourne Street, and Golf Links Par 3, War Memorial Drive,(near the Torrens Weir), both in North Adelaide also run the free bike hire.
