On a pleasantly warm Friday night, I decided to stop in at this restaurant for a fix of Asian cuisine. Luckily, I arrived early enough to still get a table as Rundle Street was quite crowded and busy. Staff were friendly and attentive with no issues with the service. For the main meal, I had Sweet Chilli chicken which was a range of vegetables(sweet corn, carrot, onion, etc) in a sweet chilli sauce served with grilled chicken. The sauce was satisfactory however was a little weak compared to other sweet chilli sauces I have had. The vegetables were really fresh which was a welcome surprise when compared to some other Asian restaurants in the CBD. Lastly, the chicken was cooked decently however without a stronger sauce it did taste quite weak. One of the people I dined with had a spring roll style salad. The serve was quite large however the spring rolls didn’t appear to have any cabbage and instead tasted of Bok choi. It still tasted fine but not as good as other spring rolls. All in all, this restaurant is quite nice and is tailored more so towards Westernised Asian food. Next time I go back I should probably try some of the spicier food on their menu.

Located on a very trendy and well travelled part of the East End, you would think it would be very busy on Saturday evening. Sadly it wasn’t, however this allowed us to order in quickly. My husband ordered a lemongrass wok bowl with chicken — it had just the right amount of heat. The wok bowl is gluten free and came with a garlicky kaffir lime seasoned sauce and seasonal fresh vegetables. I ordered the steamed barramundi fillet which was a bit drenched in(too much) soy marinade. Though it wasn’t my favorite preparation it was very tasty!

Chopsticks now markets itself as Vietnamese. Nice décor and very quick service. For what this place is I was surprised how good the duck was! Better than China town!!!

Sunday lunch on a long weekend, we even had a coupon from the Entertainment Book. Being lunch we chose light meals, the Chicken and Sweetcorn Soup was delicious and made with fresh ingredients. The steamed dim sims very tasty. Hubby chose schzuan beef which he enjoyed. All in all a very pleasant light lunch on the way to the Art Gallery

Nice Sunday night dinner We stumbled upon this restaurant looking for some where for dinner on a cold raining night, the curry noodles were great and just what we needed. The service is slow and very oblivious to the customers needs, it took us 5 minutes to get their attention to the cheque.

For the most part I like Chopstix. The food is pretty good, and served out efficiently, but the service can often be lacking in speed and enthusiasm– taking ages to clear plates, bring the bill, etc. However, in saying all that I would happily return — just remembering to avoid ordering the soup, which although tasty, is served in a bowl that is reminiscent of a bucket — that is of course unless you haven’t eaten for a week beforehand! Atmosphere can be a bit too noisy but overall it’s a good experience, at reasonable prices for the amount of food served.

This place is ok. Ok meaning that it did nothing to tell me to race back here. Their service was quick, lunch special cheap. But other than that, it was kind of… Boring. I don’t know how else to explain my experience. I can’t complain with anything, but there’s nothing to rave about either really.

I ventured into Chopstix on a busy night on Rundle street, My partner and I had planned to meet friends at a pub for dinner, but didn’t realise there would be 5 pub crawls on simultaneously. But Chopstix had a table so we gave it a go. We were seated promptly and given a menu. Apparently there were specials, but our waiter didn’t tell us. But eh all good, we were happy to be eating somewhere. The Waiter took our order, and then read it out, he missed about half the items. That’s cool. So he scribbles some stuff and reads it out wrong again. It was a busy night so no biggie we’re not crazy customers. The drinks took a little while to come out, I had to do some meerkat-ing(see meerkats standing up straight to check for danger) to initiate the delivery of the drinks after about 15 minutes. The food all came out correctly except for one of the appetisers came out main size, but the staff were quick to correct it and happy too aswell, The food was okay. The entrée was really good, we got the salt and pepper tofu and it had a good level of delicious crunch bits, chilli and shallots, as well as the tofu being firm but soft at the same time. For the main I had a tofu laksa, which was okay. There was a small amount of tofu in it, but this may have been a reflection of the busy night it was? My partner’s peanut satay tofu was also ok. The mains weren’t bad but they also weren’t amazing. They were about $ 17, and not to brag but I probably prefer my own Laksa :/.

Chopstix is keeps things simple, with good food and service. A dish I really enjoy is the Thai fried rice with duck. Aromatic Thai herbs, well cooked rice, and succulent duck. The locale is perfect for a summer evening and the prices are really cheap. Not spectacular but worth a meal when you’re not with a heavy wallet

Ive got no problem with a restaurant offering different cuisines, so long as they are done well. Chopstix offer many different styles of Asian foods on their menu, and my experience with them has been pretty good. Having said that, I think from the sounds of things, it greatly depends on what you order, as to how you’ll rate your experience. I had a Vietnamese salad and a stir fry, both were pretty good.

I’m a huge fan of phở(Vietnamese rice noodles), so naturally when I saw that Chopstix had it on the menu, I had to come and try it. Rest assured, I wasn’t disappointed. The phở is excellent, and the size is large enough to constitute your entire meal without need for extras. I’ve been to other phở restaurants where they skimp on the beef, but Chopstix puts in a good amount of meat to go with the thick noodles, and the soup is some of the best I’ve ever had. They seem to have a good reputation with vegans and vegetarians too, a few of my vegan friends are constantly going on about how great the food is. Some of the other dishes can be hit and miss, and like Brad stated, there are too many different styles on their menu. I suppose the category ‘Asian Fusion’ is appropriate, as it essentially includes cuisines from all sorts of Asian countries. To my knowledge, the owners of the restaurant are Vietnamese — and if their phở is any reflection on their ability to cook Vietnamese dishes, they should stick to that and make it their specialty, rather than be a jack of all trades but a master at none.

Chopstix is like buying Chinese take-away but sitting and eating it at a restaurant. It tastes like it has been thrown together in 2 minutes and was not quite cooked properly. On one occasion I ate at Chopstix, I ordered the Flaming Satay Peanut Sauce. The meal was cold(not what I expected with the description ‘flaming’) and whatever fluid they had used to light the flame in the middle had spread throughout my meal giving it a distinct chemical taste. However, on other occasions the food tasted a lot better, but definitely nothing to rave about. Despite these downsides, it is very cheap, with all mains under $ 15. On a Friday night on Rundle Street it is often very difficult to find a table at any restaurant, so if Chopstix is your last resort, it may not be a bad one!

If I was looking for a word to summarise my experience of Chopstix on Rundle, that word would be ‘okay’. There’s a hell of a lot of variety, I must admit. But I think at the same time, that variety takes away from the ability of the place to do any particular type of cuisine really well. I mean, there’s Chinese, there’s Japanese, there’s stuff that sounds Thai, there’s a few things that sound Vietnamese. But what I’ve had, I’ve found a bit ordinary. Not bad, but not great either. It tasted alright. I had a teriyaki chicken dish. It did make me think ‘fast food’ a bit, quality wise though. The service was okay, too. I could be talked into going back, but I’m not in any great rush.
