George’s I have to say is a fantastic restaurant. I’m italian and I never buy pasta from anywhere as I make it myself, but Georges is the only place I will. I fell in love with their gnocchi especially. OMG! Was with truffles! Great service, all pasta is made on site and their menu changes with the season. A must try for people with a refined pallet. 5 stars from me.

We made it to George’s on a rare scoopon and what a pleasant surprise. Amazing service, attentive and delightful conversations, hassle free. All the food was so great I’ll only mention the freshly made pasta which had a sort of lamb ragu dressing — YUM!!! All I ask of my food is to be tasty but this dish was also memorable, something generally reserved for holidays. Classic décor and feel but not old or boring. Must go back soon.

We recently hosted a group of 18 business/IT execs at George’s — the team made sure it ran smoothly and was a great success on the day. Booking and confirmation was streamlined and hassle free before the event. Staff were incredibly accommodating on the day, cleverly questioning to make sure all was in order before our guests arrived and making last minute seating/table changes without fuss. Our waiter, Johnny, suggested some great, well priced red and whites wines for the table. The function room is well suited to hosting a business lunch, with a projector and screen already installed in the room(not common in a lot of restaurants). The bar in the function room allowed us to provide welcome drinks before sitting for lunch. The staff swiftly took orders for the group so we could get started with the presentation. We had two guests who needed to leave before lunch was to conclude, so George gave instructions to the kitchen to make sure these guests were served first. Wonderful food, wine and service all round. Well done George, Johnny and team — look forward to hosting an event with you again soon.

Went here for a long work lunch to send off a colleague. Could not fault it! Amazing entrée of plump scallops, followed by delicate duck and orange tagliatelle. Others at table raved about the lamb press, lobster tortellini and even the fried potato side. The waiter was flawless and really got this review the 5th star. He got us to try some new European beers and nice wines which were all good, and his attentive, knowledgable yet friendly service made us feel relaxed and not rushed, despite our late booking. Whilst on the pricey side, I have paid more in places down the street and got a lot less. Try it!

Well it has been a while since I dined at Georges and I agree it is still ‘old school’ the type of place you would go for a business lunch that you can claim on the company expense account. The waiting staff are very attentive and make you feel very special. I had the fish of the day which was a crispy skin barramundi fillet served on an amazing mash with shaved fennel on top, which was absolutely perfect. The rest of my lunch buddies had the lobster tortellini which they were all a little unimpressed with for the price(around $ 35 I think) but three of them are Italian so probably a tough crowd to please. The Chandon went down well, maybe a bit too well but overall the lunch was lovely, service was great(although they were a bit slack with the bread we needed first up to soak up the champers) and still a classy place to dine and pretend you can afford to eat and drink like that everyday.

Georges is old school — but definately not out of date. The décor is classic and spacious with wonderful wood, high ceilings and crisp white linen on the tables. The waiter’s are predominantly men and many of them are of european descent themselves. The service is amongst the most polished and professional in Adelaide. What an experience! The food is mediterranean and just like Bec I will often break my ‘no pasta’ rule for this place. The serves are moderate so you can squeeze in 3 courses if you so desire. The crowd is usually suits, as the restaurant is only open monday to friday lunch and thursday, friday for dinner. The limited opening hours are my one beef with the place and the reason why I have deprived them of a fifth star, but I can hardly hold the deliberate choice to provide a specific product against them. Delicious!

I avoid pasta on many menus because it’s shop-bought and I could easily have whipped something similar up at home. But whenever I’m at Georges for dinner I always order the pasta because it is hand-made on the premises every day. The proof of the pasta is in the eating, and the sweet potato and sage gnocchi, leek, watercress and ricotta salata I sampled tantalised my taste buds. And I always make sure I have room for the 60gm cheese platter, then wash it all down with a cheeky little glass of giori grappa. The décor is stylish, with crisp linen tablecloths, high ceilings and wooden floorboards and the staff are great. The feeling is one of class without pretentions. Georges on Waymouth is open Monday to Wednesday from 7am to 5pm, Thursday to Friday from 7am until late, usually about 10pm for serving food, and Saturday from 6pm until late.
