Gong Gong Makan Place. It literally means Grandfather’s eating place. The restaurant is at the back renaissance arcade, right opposite the dumpling place. The restaurant is pretty big. A look at the menu shows the common dishes of Malaysian cuisine. Tonight, I ordered a combination laksa, a combination hor fun, Lor Bak(Five spiced fried pork with corn starch), Milo dinosaur(cold milo with extra milo powder on top) and Black and White(Also called ‘Cham’ in Nanyang café… a mixed of glass jelly and soy bean milk). One taste of the hor fun, and you can tell it has similar taste to Nanyang café’s version. However, I felt that this restaurant’s dishes are a bit more saltier. The laksa soup is thick curry laksa, which I like how my laksa to taste. However, I do find that the bean curd that they uses definitely are not the freshest around. I also find that the Milo dinosaur that they sell isn’t the drink they are advertised as. The milo dino doesn’t have milo powder on top of the drink!!! It’s a SIN! okok, not that serious. Still, the place provided an alternative choice for malaysian cuisine lovers.

A new addition to the Renaissance Arcade ‘Asian’ Food Court. It has replaced the old Penang Hawkers Corner place. Serving a mix of ready to go items like Rendang Curry, Braised Beef and Crispy Pork Spare Ribs(battered in sauce), also a range of made to order rice and noodle dishes. Today I thought I’d try the BBQ roast Duck(I have trouble resisting some good duck) and it was OK. I tried it with dried noodles rather than rice. It came out to the table almost instantly as the place was not busy. It came out to the table looking very nice. but when I started to eat it I was disappointed. The Bok Choy served under the duck was cold and the noodles were sticking together. The duck itself though was tasty and very typical of the Asian style BBQ Roast, yummy crispy skin and juicy flesh… I’ll give this place another go in the future.
