Parade Apparel, is funnily enough on Wakefield St and not The Parade(go figure) but came to my saviour a couple of years ago when trying to find a formal dress that no on else would have. It was Ball time and you just know that you will have to enter the dress competition against 100+ other girls where you find out who has the best dress and if you, god forbid, wore the same dress as someone else… The store itself is a little lacking in atmosphere and pizzazz but there is quite a large range of items. They specialise in formal and evening wear, professional and business attire and weddings. There wasn’t a whole lot of choice in the way of short length formal dresses, but some of the longer evening gowns were beautiful. I eventually chose a royal blue strapless number which was unfortunately a little long for me who is unfortunately a little vertically challenged. However, for only another $ 15 they took a decent amount off the dress and took the side in too where it was a little loose. I was really impressed with the service and the cheap price of alteration, definitely compared to some of the places in the mall where you may pay 3 or 4 times that.

How many places can you get formal wear tailoured to fit your unsightly form to perfection? Loads, probably. But how many on Wakefield Street? So far, my count it one. What separates this store from any others? Well, it’s on Wakefield Street, for one, but aside from that, not a lot else. They do jewellery too, which is ever so slightly above the norm, and a sweet deal on dry cleaning. Finally, there’s an elderly gentleman who performs disharmonious grunts in his office, which is good for entertainment, I’m sure. Other than that, there’s not much reason to oppose or champion this store.

Pru’Shan is the woman who will make all your prom night dreams come true. Well, maybe not prom night, but possibly the big wedding you are a guest at or the charity ball you are attending where you want to make that big impression. Possibly you are headed over to Mardi Gras in Sydney and it’s your big coming out party, who knows? One thing that is for sure, if you are in the market for a stunning gown Parade Apparel is worth checking out because these frocks, gowns, dresses are high quality and pretty darn good looking. You can have something made to measure and basically designed to your specifications with the assistance of Pru’Shan or one of her associates. I think it is great fun to get all gussied up and parade around some party like you are Queen Muck, or even get yourself into a convertible and drive cross country like Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze did in that old movie, «Too Wong Foo» and the types of outfits those dudes playing dudes in dresses were wearing could have come from Parade Apparel — very tasteful, well made, nice colour palette and good fashion cut. So all joking aside I think you may like to use their off street parking and pop in for a good look around to see if there is something that makes you want to be gorgeous. There’s a broad range of styles, all in the gown department; casual gown, formal gown, super special event almost fantasy gown… and there are great ideas to be picked up while you browse. If you have a daughter who is about to have her big night — be it a school prom or a twenty first birthday — you may want to splurge on something here and get it custom built rather than spend a heap at a department store where someone else may end up wearing the same thing to the same event. Wonderful opportunities are almost always provided in these types of stores, off the main drag and filled with possibilities.
