Stahhhp it uni bar, you’re making this young(at heart) lass feel old! Filled to the brim with your funky and cool yet totally poor student types, you certainly know how to put on a good show — but for a venue aimed at those with a smaller disposable income, you’re certainly not THE cheapest around. Sure you’re also a bit rough around the edges — but that’s all a part of your charm, isn’t it old chum? I’ve seen many a gig while standing on your sticky floors(side note — how is it that your floors are ALWAYS sticky, even if they’ve just been cleaned? It’s actually so gross it’s kinda impressive…) but you always bring the goods! Look uni bar, we’ve had our times. I know we don’t see each other as much as we used to, but what can I say, I guess we’re just in different places now. I’m all grown up, while you’re still hanging around with the young crowd. I’ll always make time for you when you host a decent gig — a place in my heart will always be found for you. Though I may no longer be a student of a university, I’d like to consider myself a student of life(okay…maybe I’m getting a bit wanky now…) and for that reason, I’ll always need you in my life some where, some time — and if you manage to arrange some even better drink deals, who know, perhaps we could make it a regular thing… if you catch my drift… winky face ;)

19÷1÷2012 You’re alright. Maybe it’s because I prefer poshier looking bars like the ones in Rundle Street, but UniBar, I enjoy catching up over several beers with Uni mates here. You know, the pool tables are great fun and the music videos on the hanging TVs make my New York friend and I rap along to ‘Swagger Like Us’. I loved how my slim NY classmate started saying, «No-one can drink as much as me because I’m a heavyweight.» He made me laugh even more when he said, «The sons of American millionaires come to this UniBar.» I like the fact that you’re just a short walk from the lecture buildings inside North Terrace Campus, and who isn’t happy when most of your first year Spanish classmates hit this bar together with you, after our final exam! I’m glad you like my bright fluoro shirt, mate. If the above two types of crowd doesn’t do it for you, you can always organise a group of 4 or more of your most intelligent schoolmates for an intense serious discussion about how you’re going with University workload. If that doesn’t work for you, rock up alone during a really packed Friday afternoon, and you will end up meeting someone cool from University of Adelaide. This is definitely the party place to be for University(«College» if you’re American) students at the end of a long week or semester of studying(or not). So really, it’s who you drink with inside here that can make a difference. But honestly, I feel that you’re a bit lacking. What about a fireplace? lol only joking. For future improvement, UniBar, please provide an easier way of getting inside, rather than having to make me walk around to get in! Thanks! :)

I hadn’t thought about this place for years, but seeing the name flash up on my computer as I was reviewing a few other places reminded me of good times in years gone by. Now, I need to admit that I’m not astudent. I’m not even an ex student at this uni, but I was seeing a band with a few mates who were attending uni, and we were having a big day, so we pretty much started here at midday and continued on for the next few hours, until such a time as we’d totally forgotten that we had a gig to go to. No big loss, we had a great time here. Great bar. Honestly, you guys going to uni here are lucky to have such an awesome bar. Make the most of it.

Yeah. Adelaide Uni. Woo! Okay, fine! I can’t keep up this charade. I’m an impostor. I attend… Flinders. Have mercy, please! I don’t want to get into any debates on which of the two educational establishments is the better. Truth be told, I don’t care. Flinders is the only institution in South Australia that offers my course, and so far I’ve enjoyed my time studying there. But they shut down our unibar. Before I ever even had a chance to use it. Cruelty, thy name is Flinders! So I’ve invaded the Adelaide Unibar on occasion, but only ever on a Saturday night. We have a place to hang out and buy drinks in between lessons at Flinders, but it doesn’t stay open after hours. So how’s the Adelaide Unibar on a Saturday night, then? Yeah, it’s okay. It’s nothing amazing. There are some pool tables, but it’s a little hard to talk smack with the music blaring in your ear(I prefer quiet pool). The alcohol’s reasonably priced(as you’d expect at a place frequented by uni students). The music varies from good to bad. And the outdoor area’s pretty cool. Have I said enough? In short, don’t be afraid to check this place out if you don’t attend Adelaide University.

The Adelaide Unibar is an institution of the Adelaide University social scene. Countless philosophical arguments, bawdy propositions, pool wagers, drinking competitions, pub crawls and concerts have happened here in decades past. Personally I’m a fan of the Friday afternoon jug of beer on the balcony. Open from 11am, this is the place where students ‘forget’ about their lectures and tutorials and remember how much they prefer beer. The bar has specials and promotions running year round so there’s plenty to divert your eyes from the stains on the carpet. The pool tables and arcade games of Buck Hunter also leave you with plenty of activity to make bets on with friends and aqquaintances. Students, uni staff and workers populate the bar in the afternoons and things really kick off Friday afternoon as pub crawls and post assignment revelry take hold. Aside from being a solid student bar, Unibar is also a great venues for bands. I’ve seen the likes of Cut Copy and Cody Chestnut play onstage here and loved it.

What better way to spend a 2 hour break between classes at University than having a jug of beer? The UniBar provides a relaxed environment, with a nice balcony area outside and comfortable couches on the inside where students can spend quality time with their classmates or have a beer whilst doing that last minute reading. They also provide a lunch and dinner menu, which includes $ 9 schnitzels. Yes, that’s right, $ 9. They also constantly have specials on jugs of beer for $ 10. It may generally be Coopers, but who cares for $ 10. Occasionally, on Saturdays they also have musical guests for your entertainment!
