Pretty cheap parts, and usually very good quality. I’ve never had to return an item. The other reviews I’ve read are pretty accurate, but it’s usually worth it in the end.

Think«The Soup Nazi»(Seinfeld) of computer parts stores :-) Shop at MSY only if you know exactly what you want. There is no window shopping or touching the goods before buying. Download the PDF pricelist from the website. List everything you want — always have a 2nd option in case they don’t have stock — before you go to the store. After queuing forever you will be summoned to the counter by one of the surly assistants. Read out the list. Sometimes they will refuse to sell you a part — e.g., when I bought RAM for my MacBook Pro — but if you know better just insist. The prices are almost always the cheapest in town. Service is grumpy at best. Checking stock used to be a problem, but not they have an online ordering system.

Pro tips for a good experience at MSY: 1. Do all your research into the products you want to buy BEFORE you go into the shop. 2. Don’t be put off by the pdf parts price list — it looks dodgy, but it works. 3. Compare prices with other shops using (generally MSY will be the cheapest, but you might find other stores which are closer to you or which do delivery). 4. Check stock availability online and make an online order. You can try and ring them, but chances are the phone will be busy or go unanswered. Try the ultimo store if Auburn is out of stock. 5. Use EFTPOS or cash to avoid credit card surcharges. 6. If you need to return a product because it’s defective, start the RMA process as per the manufacturers instructions before you bring it in — generally MSY is good with honouring warranties as long as you follow procedure. 7. Enjoy your purchases!

You know you’re close to MSY when you see people queuing up and the line is a really long. Get in line quick, don’t bother walking all the way to the front to find out if people are actually queuing up for MSY or some other store, because by the time you make your way back to the end of the line, it’s probably gotten much longer. MSY Technology sells all kinds of computer parts and accessories. Their pricing is the best in the city and with daily prices updated on their website, it’s easy to compare pricing. If you’ve never been to MSY before, it can be quite a unique experience. Unlike other department stores, where you can walk along multiple aisles, picking up the stuff you want and taking it to a counter for billing. At MSY, there is only a counter. You stand there and ask for what you’re after. The service staff are Brilliant and will fetch it for you and proceed to bill immediately. If you’re smart or have been there before, you would have called in with your request, confirmed the product is available and reserved it online or over the phone. Then Queue up again, but this time, you’re not fretting, if the product will still be available or sold out and this also helps move the line faster.
