OK fair notice, I went here because I knew someone working in the kitchen on a part time basis and they invited us along. Good thing! I mean, it is a little contrived — it is full I mean FULL of memorabilia, some better than others, old biscuit tins, movie cameras, mainly US-centric toys, posters and so on, with Tom and Jerry cartoons playing on a big screen, quite unobtrusively, at one end. and just after we sat down a guitarist/singer started up in the window at the other end– he was pretty good, and his set lasted longer than our lunch. Lamb roast for lunch — with peas, roast spuds and other vege. I mean, what’s not to like about sitting eating a lamb roast, watching Tom and Jerry while listening to live music. It is pretty good! Nostalgic for sure. Tom and Jerry — what a blast! Good coffee, and an excellent caramelised banana cake to finish — we left stuffed and happy.

I returned to The Old City, as I said I would, to give it another go. It seemed quite well patronised, and there were more options for seating this time. I had coffee and lunch here. The coffee is the same as last time — nutty and rich, but not a delicate blend. I also ordered a salmon wrap, which was dry and very scantly filled, and I hate to say it, but it tasted a bit cardboardy, with little flavour. I’ve heard good things about their quiche lorraine(smh review), but have not tasted it myself. Hm. Still disappointed. The antiques are still great though.
