My wife and I love Arthur Radley. They just do consistently great food in a lovely casual setting. The place has great character, decorated with an odd assortment of To Kill a Mockingbird collectables and other seemingly random nick nacks which probably shouldn’t work, but do. My only criticism is that the front of house staff can be a little familiar at times and as regulars we have had a quite a few«what the?» moments following the borderline inappropriate comments that we have occasionally been subjected to. But this is hardly reason to stay away as the food is always quality. They are also very well practiced at getting people fed and out the door in time to catch a movie at the nearby Palace cinema.

Need to try these guys again I think, based on other reviews here. When we went it was some time ago for some drinks and light fare and we got seated near the kitchen where we gulped our wine and and gobbled our food down to get out of there as quickly as possible, as we were witness to an epic shouting match between the cooks and waitstaff(with neither of them seemingly caring about the patrons observing all of this). It was like being on set of a Kitchen’s Nightmare episode, but without Gordon Ramsay. Didn’t get an apology or any recognition from anyone, although we did like the layout and look of the place and am a sucker for the Mockingbird theme so we’ll write this experience off as a hopefully once-off and hesitantly head back sometime… with some earplugs handy maybe.

After purchasing what should be every coffee lovers bible — The Good Café Guide for 2014, I went through the cafes in the Eastern suburbs where I live, and to my shock there was one I hadn’t heard of before. Arthur Radley. How that was possible I’m not sure, but I’m very glad I found it. It’s slightly different to the current trend of café that is fit out with exposed brick and treated timber benches(probably a salute to their ability to hang around in a industry where cafes turn over very quickly), and is themed in a fascinating manner around How to Kill a Mockingbird. I went with some friends for brunch, so we were able to try out a fair bit of their interesting menu. It’s not your conventional menu, with ingredients such as crab and steak used in the dishes, which is fun to try out. All three meals were throughly enjoyed, light and tasty whilst being very filling. Coffee is made with Mailing Room beans, a staple throughout cafes in the East, which does the job very well. There were also adverts around the café mentioning dinner menus available on certain days, which appeared to be Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. From my experience for brunch, I’d be very keen to try Arthur Radley out for dinner as well!

Brilliant place to have lunch on this side of the town. This place loves ‘To Kill a MockingBird’ and how do you know. Menu cover where you can spend 10 minutes going through all the covers of the book. Few copies of the book. But that’s not why I like it. It’s the awesome food and lovely staff.(Free Birthday Champagne for everyone on the table doesn’t harm either). Saganaki as a starter, followed by lunch consisting of steak sandwiches, cheese burger, Specials of the day. Just Brilliant. However, go for the parfait for dessert. There are better Créme Brûlée in Melbourne.
