Love coming here on a hot summers day. Theres a jetty to jump off, a beach to tan on and a shipwreck to explore. Highly recommend checking this place out.

It makes me a little nostalgic to revisit Half Moon Bay as I had a summer years back where I frequented the place with a new flame. Now that that relationship turned to custard, I find it pretty weird to go back there and, in fact, the last time I did, I spotted said old flame’s car in the car park — no shit! This place is my pick of the bay beaches as the stairs kind of eliminate most lazy fuckers and teenagers from entering. Also, there is nothing here but the sand and the water. No kiosk, no fuckin’ ice-cream shop, no nothing. What you get is a very chilled out spot to read your book, with few hassles and a gorgeous little cove to swim in. Do not got in the water after rain here. Melbourne is so backwards that the storm water dumps straight into the bay. So unless you like skin infections, wait a few days after a downpour before swimming. Ah, the memories…

Looking for a nice beach within Melbourne is a little difficult to say the least. While St. Kilda undoubtedly has a great vibe during the summer, the beach leaves much to be desired. Coupled with that is the fear that you may step on something unsavoury hidden in the sand, be it broken glass or god forbid a syringe(I’m not sure that this actually happens but mothers all across Melbourne are quick to warn of the likelihood). Half Moon Bay on the other hand is a gorgeous little spot and a real surprise in comparison to other Melbourne beaches. Great for swimming, tanning, reading and picnicking this is the perfect spot for when you don’t want to leave the city in search of some sand, sea and sunshine.

This little hiding hole is a perfect spot when you’re in a group looking to head to the beach where not many people are around. Normally, you will be able to find a quiet spot to enjoy with your friends and hang out but recently more and more people have discovered this area of the beach where it may be a little more crowded. Either way, it has the sandiness you want, plus a few rock pools and also a beautiful looking cliff’s edge to admire also. Maybe Half Moon Bay isn’t as private as it used to be but it’s still one of my favourite beach positions to hang out at. Fish and chips + esky is the way to go!
