Probably the best bar I’ve encountered on the planet! Only one better was on Mars but that’s another story. Good cocktails and awesome happy hour. Spunky staff omggggg

With not a surfboard in sight, this swanky wine and cocktail bar almost seems like Bondi’s cool babysitter or older sophisticated step-brother has settled in for the summer. It’s polished and stylish without trying too hard to be either, which is refreshing for Sydney’s social scene. But let’s be honest, I head there for the $ 5 happy hour wine and sangria. Tons of seating, tasty Spanish-inspired nibbles, relaxing atmosphere, laid back staff and a solid spirit collection are all important things, but come secondary to such a steal in this part of the world. And this happy hour? It’s daily: mon-fri 4 – 6 and sat-sun 2 – 5.

Great place for a few cocktails, some light eating and a chat with friends. I love the casual-but-sophisticated atmosphere… it’s a hard balance to strike without getting a bit wanky. Cocktails were delicious(personal fave is the Kraken rum one… can’t remember what it’s called) and food was rich and filling(I’m a big fan of vinegar and salt… so might be too much for those who prefer less salt). Moody lighting and flirt-inducing seating/booths make this a great place to have a date too…

I came here for a friend’s birthday when it first opened up — we’d just finished a boozy lunch at Roy’s up the road and were after somewhere nearby to continue the party before heading onto a couple of other venues later in the night. I’d never even noticed it before, tucked just off Hall Street next to The Italian restaurant. It’s nice to see something more contemporary than the typical bohemian Bondi scene, but I have to say this place seemed like they were trying to hard style wise — the shiny timber finished and skylight kind of made it feel like a hotel lobby. The cocktails were good though — we had many rounds of their classic mojito, which was always made with plenty of fresh lime and mint — and the staff were friendly despite the rowdiness of our group.

9am ish and looking for a café to set up and do some work on a Saturday morning, but I’m competing with the sculptures crowd and the cafes are already cramming up. Not in the mood for a stifling crowd though. The Crossing lures me with its new contemporary aesthetic and a vacant interior. Coldplay interspersed with laidback Cuban tunes is blaring and the place is a little dim and cool — a refreshing escape for the escalating temp outside. The gorgeous waitress greets me at the door and announces 50 per cent of breakfast this morning? «Why?» Because they’ve only just started breakfast so they’re trying to coax in the Bondi brekky masses. Good timing by me I say. Sit outside, or in at funky bar height tables or in the laidback loungy area out the back. There’s even a guitar to strum if you’re feeling musical. I actually came here to use the wireless which the waitress told me they provided, but just realised they didn’t… but the discount, funky setting and upbeat tunes compel me to settle in for the organic scrambled eggs with chorizo and tomato relish… usually $ 14 but today a bargain basement $ 7. The eggs are a healthy organic colour and the chorizo is a chunky meaty contrast with a Spanish spicy kick, and suitably garnished with a wedge of lime which adds a welcome tang to the sweet chutney and the feisty sausage. Two mochas and eggs for $ 10.50, but I give ‘em a well earned 20 anyway. The Crossing is my best chance discovery in a while… if they had wifi, I’d settle in till lunch!

Bondi’s newest wine bar has a lot to offer, although I’m not too sure where the name ‘The Crossing’ comes from, or what it implies. Nestled between a clothes store and an Italian restaurant, this full service bar offers an extensive range of sexy sexy cocktails, and sophisticated wines. A warm and comfy lounge setting, natural timbers, a restored fireplace, and antique designer furniture settings, I can’t think of anything else which could bump up the artisan contemporary sassiness, except for maybe some Marvin Gaye, or James Brown. The delectable mix of european flavours such as duck liver pâté, and Aussie inventions such as chargrilled chicken skewers tapenade, fill the bar food, and dinner menu’s. If you’re after a treat to hold the queen ransom too, try the ‘Passion of the crossing’ — wyborowa vodka, lychee liqueur, passionfruit pulp, lychees, dash of lime, served on ice, for $ 17.00. So good, you’ll want it for breakfast. Oh, not to forget… The HAPPYHOURS: Mon — Fri 4pm– 6pm Sat /Sun 2pm– 5pm $ 4 Carlton $ 4 Sparkling $ 5 House Red & White $ 5 Sangria $ 10 Margarita’s & Rum Collins Enjoy!
