I had a quick lunch here before catching a movie. It was pretty empty here on at around noon on a Sunday. I tried two soft shell tacos — crispy chicken and soft shell crab. Both were surprisingly delicious. A little too pricey though(hence the 3 stars) Would definitely be back to try other food.

This place was a bit hard too find. It’s inside Westfield bondi junction on level 5 and you really need to pay attention. Inside they have a mix of communal tables and booths. They also have an interesting space that is semi outdoor. On a cool day, definitely being a jacket. And be careful when leaning against the wall when it rains as the water seeps through. My friend’s jacket got wet as she was leaning on the wall at dinner. Margaritas were interesting, but they didn’t blow me away. The chips with guac and salads were standard. I liked the plantains with spices and tacos. We ordered southern fried chicken and soft shell crab. Mushroom quesadillas were yummy but I couldn’t taste the truffle despite a mention on the menu. The spicy beef quesadillas were rather dry. The service was friendly but when we were finishing up our meals, they weren’t subtle when hurrying us to finish, pay up, and leave. So… 3 stars because the food was pretty good, but service at the end were rather meh…

Waited for twenty minutes under the rain and was the only one asked if I was on the guest list. Also we were the only ones with a darker skin colour. Thanks for making my gf cry you facists arsholes.

High price low flavour. After a delay in any service from staff during a very quiet lunch(one table of 3). We had to get up and get our own menu and water. Then when food arrived it was lacking flavor like our table lacked service. For a Mexican enthusiast this meal was dismal. I was hoping for so Much more. I didn’t think tacos were difficult. Everything seemed over priced as well. Not impressed.

Walked in with no service… so awkwardly went to the bar to order a drink. Grabbed a table(again can’t see anyone apart from the bar staff) by ourselves and managed to finish and entire drink before anyone came to take our order, the girls seated next to us had left unattended in that time. Crap crap service!

Located inside the BONDIJUNCTION Westfield, El Topo is a Mexican get away oasis. I’ve been a couple times now and have solidified this place has some pretty good chips and guac. For $ 8, you get a healthy serving of homemade chips(a little salty for my liking) and guacamole. We ordered the ceviche which for 16 $ was a bit disappointing. Not only was the portion just too small for the money, it was overall sweet, maybe from the yellow corn, and laking that limey tang that ceviche should have. If they are doing the taco specials, Street tacos 15 $ for 3, this is good value as regular price is $ 6 per taco. These street style tacos are filled with your choice of meat, and toped with onions, served with lemon. I would have to say the highlight for me was the Maiz, chargrilled corn, smothered in chipoltle aioli and rolled in sunflower seeds. It’s $ 5 for 1, but well worth it for a hefty snack or side. Congrats El Topo, you’ve made the short list for my culinary adventures at Bondi Junction.

Greg T. My third time there last night. They used to have good tacos with some others bits which made it a good alternative to tex mex. Tacos are pork or beef tongue… not great. Margaritas are pretty good, but service is shocking… the guy in charge of seating people hangs ben rude on a numbers of occasions. Go if you want a different experience, but there are much better places like chic bonita for example

Okay– Oaxaca is not spelled Wahaca. I hate that! Serving up Chapulines,(grasshoppers) locally grown I’m told, props for that. Great selection of Tequilas and Mezcal’s, and solid matgaritas. I have eaten here 3 times now and have decided it has evolved into a worthy stop, worth your time and money. Even though the owners have not sent their chef to Mexico, and he has never been there, I won’t hold that against them.

Not a bad establishment. This place can attract mixed reviews, yet I was fortunate enough to have been invited to their opening night. Their cocktails are so bursting with hot flavour, and the food is otherwise okay. The fish varieties are a hit. This Mexican restaurant was at the top of my list until I visited Mexico Food and Liquor in Surry Hills. The latter establishment acts in a similar manner to El Topo — yet Mexico is now the hit! Sorry guys, better luck next time…
