Other than slightly higher prices than elsewhere, I love this place and go often with mum or girlfriends. Great armosphere. Pretty outdoor area out the back and comfy inside too. Servers are friendly and have personality. Food is delicious and have unique refreshing drink selection.

For my Xmas Besties lunch I decided I’d take my girlfriends to lunch at Egg Bistro because I’d had some great breakfasts and even a very pleasing lunch here in the past. Unfortunately, something has happened to what used to be great food at this establishment. Gutted, extremely gutted. The shared salad was a bag of mixed leaves thrown into a small bowl with some dressing put on. My friends Scallop Risotto had a total of TWO scallops and they described this special dish of the day as «uninspiring». I had a Barramundi Croquette dish that was as bland as any plain-wrap fish cake you could buy in a grocery store. I had to ask for lemon to squeeze on them just to awaken any tastebuds that may have still been interested. Another friend had a Barramundi Special and she was very pleased with it and its contemporary potato salad accompaniment. When we asked for the dessert menu we were told there wasn’t one but the waitress listed off 4 desserts we could have. Service was friendly but lacked any personal charisma. I’m sad, a favourite is no longer a favourite. I’d love to hear more reviews in the future that show that Egg Bistro has read these reviews and picked up their game in the food stakes. Until then, I’ll wait.

I’ve been to Egg Bistro a few times before for breakfast and have always walked away ready to sing this East Brisbane café’s praises. The breakfasts have been inventive, full of fresh produce and wonderfully satisfying. I’m talking cocoa crumpets with sour cherry compote. They were out of this world. It’s generally packed and if you’re not prepared to sit at the bar, a long wait often ensues. But on this Saturday morning visiting Egg Bistro there wasn’t the usual buzz and the breakfast menu was heavy with egg dishes and not much else. Sat in the outside courtyard, I ordered the omelette with smoked salmon, avocado and brie. It was okay but nothing that set my tastebuds a twitter. My chai tea came out pre-made on milk in a teapot which seemed odd to me. While there was nothing really wrong with our experience at Egg Bistro this weekend, there was nothing that made me jump up and down with the thrill of a good café breakfast. Will I head back to Egg Bistro? Sure, at some time in the future but it won’t be a rush and when I do I’ll be crossing my fingers it will be back to what I remember from visits of yore.
