Great location and a historically significant café. It’s best to eat your purchase in store or the same day, because they use traditional recipes. I’ve found if you leave it longer it can be on the dry side. A nice spot to meet friends and family. It’s close to the library and public transport. The prices are reasonable and the menu changes.

I’m basing my review off of their Green Tea Matcha Latte and their Chai Latte! First of all, this little café is super cute! The interior definitely has a vintage feel to it. Green Tea Matcha Latte: This has to be the best green tea matcha latte I’ve ever had! It’s not too sweet and has a strong green tea/matcha taste. So yummy! Chai latte: I’m not a huge fan of chai, so when I tried my friend’s chai latte I was so surprised at how good it tasted! It was a lot creamer than other chai lattes I’ve had. It didn’t have a super strong chai taste which I really like. Also, it wasn’t super sweet. I’m excited to try their other coffees!

It’s old, it’s original, it’s classic, it’s good, and it’s expensive! I heard about Shingle Inn recently and today I had a chance to try it. I think it’s a treat, if you have not been in there you should, at least, go there once just for the experience. When they renovate the City Hall, they actually kept all the original pieces. When you sit in there, it feels like you were back in the 1930’s. I really like the tables and the chairs, very classic. Even the servers were dressing up like it was 19 century. I’m not a big fan with Western Desserts but I have a few favourites. So I ordered Scones with jam and cream cheese that come with any prime leave tea for $ 13.90 and I have Chai Masala. The scones were good as I expected and so was the chai tea. They also offer light meals such as: soup, salad, sandwich, all kinds of desserts(bake in house), coffee, teas, and a variety of wine selection. They offered high tea for $ 39 pp. The price is definitely more expensive compare to the similar kind of coffee shop but dining in an iconic site like this it worth the experience. Now put that on your bucket list for Thing To Do in Brisbane!

We came here for my friend’s birthday celebration and decided to do high tea. We made a reservation and they were so great and put us in the back so we’d have the whole back area to ourselves. They were so attentive and incredibly friendly and accommodating. One of my friends needed gluten free and they brought her an entire set of gluten free sandwiches and desserts! We started off with a glass of sparkling and then had our choice of coffee or tea. The high tea set was delicious! The scones are SO tasty. I love how they come out on three tier trays. The petite sandwiches are great. The best one IMO is the avocado and camembert one. So tasty. They are both creamy and great together. Then, you get to the scones and you just top it with as much or little jam and cream as you’d like. By that time, I was already really full and could hardly eat my dessert. Thank goodness the girls like chocolate because I don’t. We had tarts, heart-shaped cookie, chocolate cupcake, and a caramel slice. Everything was tasty. There wasn’t one thing that wasn’t tasty. We didn’t feel rushed and had a wonderful time catching up and celebrating! It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon and start the birthday celebration.

The Shingle Inn is somewhat of a Brisbane icon — the original cake shop and café which was regarded by generations of Brisbanites as a real treat for the sweet-toothed. I vaguely remember going to their flagship Edward St shop, which was all wood paneling, small intimate booths and waitresses in old-fashioned outfits. The original location has since been abandoned but in recent years they relaunched with a slick ‘new-millennium’ look. Somehow it just hasn’t retained its magic for me, particularly considering the explosion of other competing cafes with enviable dessert menus of their own. I’ve tried their coffee and some inexplicably costly butterfly cake and neither managed to impress me, or justify the above-average price-tags attached. Perhaps to some extent the rose-coloured glasses of nostalgia are clouding my judgement(they don’t make them like they used to!) but I think this place has lost some of its clout.

What Shingle Inn is really a Brisbane icon for is not it’s coffee or café fare in store but it’s amazing cakes and delectable desserts. Every single birthday in my workplace is celebrated with one and there is never a single crumb left. Sometimes we don’t even need an excuse to pick one up! Everything on their cake and sweet treats menu is decadent and delicious. Luckily there are Shingle Inns all over Brisbane so no one is too far away from a scrumptious morning tea treat.

If you are going to Shingle Inn, you really should be going for one thing– the cakes! This is one of the prettiest Shingle Inn’s as it is not inside a crowded shopping centre. This makes it ideal for an afternoon coffee and cake date. Like all ‘Shingle Inn’ stores, it has large comfy chairs and is decorated like an old English manor. Onto my cake recommendations– the cheesecake, carrot cake, chocolate mud cake are all to die for! They also sell yummy cupcakes and around Christmas time there is a nice selection of mince tartes, Christmas pudding and biscuits. I honestly would not bother going for the sandwiches or lunch meals because that is not what ‘Shingle Inn’ specialises in. If you are after a place to enjoy a coffee and cake or need to buy a cake for a special occasion, ‘Shingle Inn’ has what you are looking for.
