I booked as part of a group and paid in advance online, I arrived(admittedly I was late — I got lost on the way) and despite having proof of purchase in email format, my name was not«on the list». The gentleman serving said«well 21 people paid and 21 people have checked out gear» so basically someone else had turned up and taken my paid for place. Luckily 1 other person in the group retired early and I was able to take over her SUP. No instructions offered, the whole process seemed really unorganised and a bit of a mess. Bundeena is so beautiful! And the SUP was fun once I finally got on the water but perhaps there is another company to hire from that wont lose your booking?

I go here mostly to stand up paddleboard, but I’ve gone kayaking once, too. If you haven’t tried stand up paddleboarding yet, GO! It’s my absolute favorite water sport. I’ve taken a SUP lesson here, instructor was really friendly & helpful. I’ve also gone on a SUP tour with a group. Highly recommended to see parts of Bundeena that would take a while to get to on foot. But exploring the area solo is good, too :) It’s a great place to go w/friends or by yourself, just make sure to book as it gets quite busy sometimes! Bundeena isn’t too far from Sydney and I love going here for a relaxing day out of town.

What an adventure. No one told me how bloody hard this would be! We went on a 3 hour tour. We capsized within the first 10 minutes and ended up beaching ourselves. We couldn’t steer our kayak to save our lives and drifted off course and away from the group a few times. We had to be rescused both times. The main guide was lovely and the fact that the spotter decided to stay on because we were a bit retarded helped quite a lot! By the time we hit the 2nd hour we were feeling it a lot as we were paddling into the headwind, against the tide and we didn’t have an engine. Oh how I wished we had an engine at this point. Let me just say a big thank you to Dori. My mantra was«just keep swimming» — the guide was pointing out nature landmarks. All I could think about was screw nature, give me an engine!!! The guide was lovely and helpful though and towed us for the last 45 minutes, because we couldn’t keep in a straight line and my hip was cramping like no one’s business. Thank you to the guide and the people running this for their time and patience. It was great fun and I can’t walk today! It’s well worth a go if you are totally active and can do this for 3 hours straight. Next time I believe we might just hire a kayak and paddle round in circles near the beach.

I fully enjoyed the kayak hire to go explore Royal National Park. Bundeena is a small town in the middle of the park. Just get up in town, get a coffee from a café, then head to the water where you can hire kayaks and stand up paddle boards. I prefer the kayaks as you can explore more of the park from the kayak rather than a stand up board. The price is very reasonable, its a great way to spend a nice sunny weekend.

Bundeena is a hidden gem inside the Royal National Park. While driving through the Royal National Park, turn left at the sign for Bundeena and follow the road for a good 15 minutes till you see a carpark and a beach. On weekends, you can hire a Kayak on the beach itself. Bundeena Kayaks opens up a Kayak hire every day except Mon and tue, when the water is suitable to enter. Which means pretty much every week except during July in winter, you will be able to hire a Kayak. Stand up boards(SUP) are also available for hire. The rates are very cheap and you can hire a single or twin kayak on hourly basis. It is $ 20 for an hour and about $ 50 for a half-day hire. Because the hiring is directly on the beach, you don’t have to drag or carry the kayak very far and you can reach water in under 15 seconds! Bundeena is a bay which means the water is very gentle and calm. No big waves, therefore very easy to paddle. A great place for beginners and kids. Tip: In case you forget to bring sunscreen, bundeena kayaks has a huge bottle for you to slap on. They will also hold on to your car keys and other valuables. I had left my gucci sunglasses and smartphone with them. Collected them after 4 hours with no problem whatsoever.
