On holiday on the Gold Coast from New Zealand and wanting to try some barramundi and Moreton Bay bugs, I scanned the on-line menus of fine dining establishments… on the Gold Coast. lol Oskar’s had both of these on their menu. I rang and when it was confirmed that they were on the menu and able to be served, I booked table for two at lunch. Public parking at lunch time is quite hard to find. There are no dedicated car parks for Oskar’s diners’. The nearby beach as just stunning. This in turn attracts lunchtime beach goers. Be sure to give yourself time to find a car park which took me 15 mins and having to assert my turn in line when another motorist turned up and tried to steal the park I had been waiting to be vacated. lol The décor is modern and minimalist. I liked it. No lingering kitchen smells from the breakfast. I had booked a table on the balcony. The wind though was so gusty, sitting outside was definitely not an option. As for the food, loved the entrée of crumbed prawns while my wife had the scallops. Love, love, loved it/them. ;-) For the main, I had Moreton Bay Bugs, barramundi was my wife’s choice. Loved it as well. The bugs were cooked to perfection with a distinct taste reminding me of New Zealand crayfish. The barra was light and also cooked to perfection. For dessert I had the soufflé and the chocolate fondant was served to my wife. Wow. Just wow. The soufflé and the fondant were again, cooked to perfection. I loved every bite of this lunch. As for the stunning view… now that was a bonus. Despite sitting inside, with the sliding doors closed, the view to Surfers Paradise was superb. White sandy beach, city, azure blue waters. It was quintessential postcard views to cap off a perfect lunch. The service was great and I left a generous tip. Highly recommended. :-)

Overpriced. The portions are pretty small for the prices too :( The view is very nice, but the food is nothing special, unfortunately(I wish it was something good). Service was decent.

Oskar’s is definitely the place to come if you want to «treat yo’self» as they say. The location on the beach at Burleigh Heads right next to the headland provides uninterrupted views of the water, beautiful at any time of the day. This restaurant is extremely upmarket so be prepared to pay for it, the food is excellence and the service is classy and prompt. They do make changes to the menu regularly but I am a big fan of their oysters, always fresh! Oskar’s is also great if you’re looking to host a special function, my Mother had her wedding here in 2012 and it was exceptional. The Chef’s are willing to discuss the menu and negotiate food options, the bar will organise special drinks and the managers will decorate the room to your requirements. This place goes above and beyond– both for regular dining and special occasions.

Spectacular location. We showed up late(~10:45, just before breakfast kitchen closed) with a group of 8 and were seated at a large table on the otherwise empty northern deck; we had great views of the beach, part of the famous Burleigh Heads surfbreak, and the GC skyline in the distance. Breakfast menu has plenty of options(~8) and is creative, beautifully prepared, and delicious. We ordered various items from the menu(see pictures), with 5 of us opting for the awesome ‘mixed grill’(2 were shared; 1 person showed off by eating the plate all alone). We also had a Granola, French Toast, and Eggs Benedict. Coffees were reported by some as not hot enough(my macchiato was fine), a request for lactose-free milk was interpreted by wait staff as soy milk, and the consumer of the EggB thought the hollandaise was a bit rich(oh well…). Other than that, I’ve just good news to report. The mixed grill was simply great. Not a typical brekky by any means, but delicious and awesome. Considering you often pay anywhere from $ 14 – 16 for a simple avo-on-toast, the prices here($ 14 for granola, $ 17⁄18 for french toast and eggB, and $ 24 for shareable mixed grill) were completely reasonable. I look forward to be back.

Spent a beautiful winter’s morning here soaking up the amazing views north to the Gold Coast and eating a very enjoyable breakfast. Not an extensive menu but big enough to keep us happy(two kids aged between 8 and 11 and a hungry husband). The service was a little on the slow side(not so much the taking of orders as the delivering of food) but all the better, we got to enjoy the view that much longer!

Fantastic location and nice food, but not good enough for the very high price. Dirty cups and cutlery, shabby décor. Needs new paint and carpet. Prawns a bit over cooked. Sorry, I won’t be back anytime soon.

Honestly, the food was delicious and came out very quickly(a little too quick… seemed like they wanted us out asap). Unfortunately, while we were at dinner we had a mouse make an appearance… Gross! ANDTHEN it happened 6 more times! Thats when you start to think, «hmm… it seems like this restaurant has a mice problem.» Now if that was my restaurant(manager/owner), I would be MORTIFIED that mice were making multiple appearances during one dinner! I would very much try my hardest to assure customers that it is a very irregular occurrence and try to encourage them to return by whatever means… comped dinner or perhaps a gift certificate to return another time. The manager tried to charge us full price for our Valentine’s Day dinner and was dirty when we said that was unacceptable! After all, we had to move tables in the middle of our dinner to try to get away from the problem. We were so put off we didn’t even have dessert! Eventually he bought the first round of drinks, but still… that’s pathetic. Especially for a place that is supposed to have such an amazing reputation. All I can say is that maybe Oskar’s on Burleigh hit a peak and is well on their way down now.

Really lovely spot in Burleigh– many of the seats have a great view looking up the coast towards Surfers. I recommend starting with one of the inventive cocktails or a locally brewed beer. I started with a passionfruit caipirinha– yum! Very veggie friendly, my dining partner is a vego and we had a lovely and inventive meal of shared plates with no meat in site. The shared plates are a must, and they’re all a generous serve– you will not leave starving. The woodfired pizzas– very nice. Waiters all have a good feel for the menu, don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations! It’s rather romantic sitting out on the porch(do reserve a table!)… Also, good spot for a stroll out to the point after dinner for a conversation, a cuddle, a …
