Stix looks like a bit like a shiny diamond amid the burgeoning apartment complexes on the Swan River in Burswood. Replete with a burnished wooden bar, gleaming copper fittings, views of the city and glimpses of the nearby Swan River, it’s a welcoming chill out spot away from the bustling Crown Casino complex a few minutes away. We took advantage of a Groupon offer of 4 courses for $ 60, and thoroughly enjoyed our Stix evening of good food and attentive service. With 2 choices for each course, the menu wouldn’t work if you were a fussy diner, but for our group it was perfect. Starting with an amuse bouche of a scallop with roe atop pea purée, the courses were well paced and the perfect size. The entrée of chicken ballotine was beautifully flavoured and was served on a bed of something cool and creamy(I didn’t make a note of the details at the time; all I can remember is how much I enjoyed it!). Our mains of Mt Barker roasted chicken breast with tarragon jus were accompanied by the most delicious little potato morsels I’ve ever had. Creamy soft inside and baked to a slightly crisp finish, they were simply amazing. The chicken was tender and moist, and although this was a simple dish, it was satisfying and perfectly cooked. A course of Yallingup camembert topped with rocket was served with a basket of bread, although crackers would probably have been better suited after our substantial mains. Dessert consisted of a selection of ice-cream and sorbet served on a crispy shortbread biscuit. The coffee ice-cream was sensational, with a close favourite being the zingy lime and mint sorbet. An unusual-looking dessert because of the way it was served on the curved biscuit, it was a light and refreshing finale to our meal. Stix is an impressive newcomer to the bar and dining scene in Perth, and no doubt a boon to the residents of the nearby apartments. It’s elegant, the food is good, and the service professional and friendly. There is a modest selection of wines by the glass, including one dessert and 2 sparkling options. With many plates designed to share, or an 8 course degustation available for $ 80 pp, it’s an accessible spot with easy parking — perfect for languid summer Perth evenings.

You haven’t heard of Stix?! It opened just a few months ago, in an area of Burswood a little off the beaten track. It’s hardly in the sticks though(hehe) — it is found a short walk from Crown — at the base of a swanky apartment building. Stix has a wonderful view over the Swan River to the Perth city skyline, so I purposely booked an early dinner, so we could enjoy the sunset. It’s a chic venue, perfect for a pre show or pre dinner drink. A cocktail felt like a fitting choice — the French Martini was absolutely delish and may just be my new favourite! We opt for the degustation($ 80pp). In the interests of seeing as much as Chef Francois’s menu as possible — the dego made sense and everyone knows I DO enjoy a dego! At Stix, the menu has a lot of French elements, but it also has a very international feel — with Asian, Spanish and many more influences. We really enjoyed it and I’d absolutely recommend that you try Stix too. It has a warm atmosphere, luxurious interior, great food — full of flavour and technique, decedent drinks and million dollar view.

Great food and beautiful setting. Scallops dumplings and charcuterie plate were table favourites. Excellent beer list and we look forward to going back and trying more from the interesting wine list. Kate was a wonderful host

What a fantastic brand spanking new restaurant and bar nestled around the quiet Burswood residential developments at the Circus. The restaurant is French modern chic tapas with a Spanish twist using local fresh ingredients. The ambience is smart casual although the price tag is probably a bit more upmarket. Don’t let that put you off. The team does a fantastic job of accommodating, informing and entertaining for a special evening out. The restaurant has only been open one week and it runs so smoothly as if it has been open for years. We later found out that one of the chefs had called in sick — you would never have been able to tell! The dishes came out at just the right times, evenly spaced out throughout the evening. The waitress and waiter were extremely attentive with our drinks and free bread basket refills. From the tapas, the highlights were the jamon iberico on tomato bread(although the bread was somewhere halfway between being stale and crunchy which was a bit confusing on the bite); the churros with a spiced persimmon dip; the mini cod burger with beetroot and the steamed oysters with fresh herbs and citrus juices. The charcuterie board was lovely but the sparsely spread fresh tomatoes looked a bit out of place, almost as a last minute addition to an enormous wooden board. It might have been nice to see an additional creamy parfait or pâté added to the pig ears and gelatinous meats on the board for a change in texture as well as some crispy bite sized breads or crackers. The eye fillet main was cooked to medium rare perfection. The meat was clearly a top quality cut, you could practically slice it with a fork. The bearnaise sauce was freshly cooked and smooth, no glugginess. The creamy mash was decorated with hand cut crisps and had a drizzle of beetroot around the edge. Beautiful! Desserts were another highlight. The chocolate soufflé is every dessert lovers dream. Served hot with with a slightly gooey middle and sheep’s milk ice cream on the side. The vanilla mille feuille was exactly as I remembered it in France. Served with a drizzle of mango sauce which was a nice touch. We had a selection of tapas, a main to share and two desserts with a glass of red recommended by the Maitre d’ for just over $ 150. I really enjoyed my meal and would recommend for date nights or family dinners. I will be back!
