Most of the staff here are booze aficionados. While FBi radio buzzes away in the background(and Sydney-based Cake wines, which donates 25c a bottle to the community radio station, sits diligently on the shelves), it’s not uncommon to hear wry musings at the counter such as, «Just *how* ‘carbon neutral’ is Cascade Pure(formally Cascade Green)?» It’s all alcohol-related debating, but YEASTY matter, nonetheless. ;) Why not arm your brain cells with a bitta strength to fight against the six-pack you’re about to consume? The staff are also jovial(«Ooooh, Chivas on a Friday night EH?». AKA, yes I’m a big dog, drinking $ 70 scotch whiskey on the down-low bruth. not really) and observant(«I’m from Queensland and I’ve noticed NSW chix drink way more beer, ay!»). The prices aren’t fan-tab cheap, but I’ve never been known to pass up a two-for-$ 45 Chandon deal if I’m in the mood for some bubbles, doll. This homely cellar probably has the most hipsterish staff you’re gunna get on this side of Parramatta road(think more of a Trent Lane’s band ‘Mystic Spiral’ back in the late 90’s kind of vibe). All it needs is a lazy cravat-wearing dog that greets you with a modest head-lift upon entry.

I wish Camperdown Cellars was my cellar. They have a mind-boggling array of ciders, a positively encyclopedic selection of fancy beers(even Pepperjack Ale… which has a dash of shiraz in it) and they have excellent discounts on wines. It’s relatively big, it’s full of boxes, and sometimes a little chaotic. The staff are often extremely helpful and chatty, and occasionally completely hopeless, but it’s kind of endearing. I’m sure that reviews for this place will use the word«range» a lot. But it’s true, they have a «great range», and a «wide range», and you could spend hours exploring the collector bottles. What a range. Moet is discounted too, if anyone wants to buy me that unbirthday present.

A beautifully kept establishment, without the alcoholic miasma. It is well stocked with an excellent selection of wines and spirits. My only complaint is that they don’t stock any sugar-free mixed drinks(what will the poor diabetics drink?). Half the staff are friendly, the other half seem sad — perhaps it’s an occupational hazard.

Camperdown Cellars have the best range of wines, beers, ciders and spirits I’ve found in an independent bottle-shop. They have a pretty impressive range of imported beers and local and imported ciders, including large champagne-style bottles of French cider that are a rare find in most suburban bottle shops. They also stock a good range of imported and local wines, including a section of ‘Noteable’ wines — a cabinet of special edition wines and bottles of champagne ranging from $ 100 to $ 680. They also have tequila in a gun. The staff here are friendly and eager to help — in my 10 minutes in the store I was approached by three different staff members offering me assistance or just generally checking I was ok. Although their prices weren’t rock bottom, they were more than reasonable and I’d be happy to come down the road to Camperdown Cellars to get my Old Mount ciders as opposed to driving to the nearest Dan Murpheys(the only other place I’ve seen them) just to save a dollar or two.
