Red Heart Cafe

Very average food and service — coffee has been changed to a new brand and is very bitter. Had the worst club sandwich of my life — cannot recommend it at all. My wife’s fish and chips was ok but not great. Looking forward to the new café a few doors up opening!

Food mediocre, not very good coffee… Although the staff were fairly friendly.
We arrived for Sunday breakfast and weren’t sure about where we were to order or if there was table service. After going to the counter and asking for a menu, we were told that there was table service and someone eventually came to our table.
We ordered 3 drinks, eggs benedict, tagine, and breakfast trifle. We were going to order the fruit salad, but it was sold out.
One of our drinks was forgotten and we had to ask for it again, the muffin which came with the eggs benedict was cold, the tagine was ok but a little bit on the salty side, and the trifle was ok.
Highlight was friendly staff, however definitely won’t be a second visit.
At the end of the day, nothing special here and would drive the extra 5 minutes for a better café.

I’ve been here before for a coffee. It is nearby for a friend. Today we went there for a late lunch a bit before 2pm. As we entered a guy was sweeping so we checked with him if they were indeed open for business & he assured us that it was.
We went to sit down and the owner or manager quite gruffly redirected us to ‘Sit over there, out of the way!‘
She must have noticed the expression on my face, (I don’t play poker for obvious reasons) as she then tried to soften her tone by saying it was more discreet in the back corner. Hey, we were 2 friends having lunch & coffee, not a couple on a honeymoon or lovers on a triste!
So while we waited for our order the Table allocation became relevant. One by one the other tables in the café were moved across the floor and then the chairs were stacked on top. Then the sweeping continued. I looked at my watch, thinking we must be holding them up for closing.
No.
And no comment about disturbing us, or there being a special reason why they were performing the end of day clean around us.
The Melt that my friend ordered, and the burger that I chose tasted good. However there are plenty of cafes around, so perhaps it may be better for me to try a different spot next time.

I grew up around these parts of town and what the little strip of shops at Carmen Drive needed was a Café. Well as soon as I moved out of there they finally got one in and the Red Heart Café is it.
It’s a good little café in a busy little row of shops so it’s quite nice to grab a seat on the foot path and enjoy a coffee and some fresh air. There’s a park across the road so if you bring the kids, you can keep an eye of them over there (sort of!) giving you enough time to enjoy a quick snack or sweet for the Red Heart.
This place would’ve really come in handy when I was living out here as I’d have been a regular on a daily basis but when I do visit the ‘burbs, I stop in and grab a coffee from the Red Heart!
