Depot de Pain has a variety of pastries, sandwiches, cakes and meals, but being vegan I can’t eat any on them. Having said that they get 5 stars for their coffee. Hands down the most consistently great lattes around and the staff are all awesome. If you are in the area definitely check in!

I’d heard good things about Depot de Pain and was catching up with a couple of mates on a Saturday arvo for lunch in Carlton so there was no way I was gonna let them go some place else! The place is really cool and, as soon as you walk in, you can really see yourself spending quite some time just chatting away and hanging out. There’s nothing poshy about the place. It’s actually very ‘French’ — bright white coloured walls, simple an with a cosy feel, fresh and inviting. The staff are very nice and I don’t think my glass ever got empty. They were always coming around to fill it up with water, which was great. I had the Croque Monsieur, which was really good — one of the best I’ve had actually and my flat white was pretty good as well. I can’t wait to return, especially for one of their sweet treats — those macaroons looked good!

A café that a french person finds it amazing. A friend of mine introduced me to this place and i felt in love with it since! Macaroon macaroon macaroon! you really have to try their macs! Fresh and crispy on the outside, creamy in the inside. yummm. Owner is super duper friendly. He is a kiwi bloke who loves how to enjoy life. You can’t go wrong with owners like this. He can talk about all kinds of things on and on and on forever! Their coffee is amazing. Long Mac is my fav. Highly recommended their egg french toast. SUPERBBBB quality. :)

My first introduction to this French café was an interesting one. Walking down Rathdowne Street, hung over like you wouldn’t believe, I saw the word ‘Pain’ in the distance and decided this was a place I needed to be. Thank God I did. This café has everything. Cheese platters, hot dogs, coffees and beers, so no matter what mood you’re in on a Sunday morning, these guys have it covered. My personal favourite from the menu? The Croque Monsieur — possibly the greatest ham and cheese toastie I have ever come across in my entire life. But the greatest thing about this venue, is how unbelievably friendly the staff are! They could serve me a flaming bag of dog poo and I would probably still come back.
