The stunning beachside setting & the delightful K9 companions make up for the consistently brusque service. You’ll soon forget the eye-roll & withering stare you get at the counter(when you say you have special dietary requirements) as they bring out the biggest plate of grilled mushrooms and tomatoes, spinach, smashed avocado & toast you’ve ever seen. And after you’ve plundered this immense breakfast bonanza accompanied by a comforting coffee(yes, that’s soy milk thank you… and yes, I did bring a keep cup… come on this is Freo I can’t be the only one), you can simply roll out of your chair and onto the sand for a good nap.

A few months ago we had a long weekend in Perth and I ended up having a lazy lunch with a friend at the Pickled Fig in South Fremantle that weekend. When I arrived at the Picked Fig I ordered a cocktail, the Earl’s Punch(earl grey tea, brandy, lemon juice). While sipping away at the cocktail I selected the conchiglioni for my main(pasta shells stuffed with chicken, pumpkin and brie with a smoked ham and fennel broth). The friend I was having lunch with ordered the burger for their main(grilled beef pattie topped with bacon, swiss cheese, rocket and roasted capsicum served with a side of wedges and aioli). The burger got a big thumbs up from my friend. I too enjoyed my dish but found it did not completely fill me up. Due to being still peckish after finishing the conchiglioni I ended up helping my friend out with their wedges as they found the burger to be quite filling. After nibbling on a few wedges from the burger I decided to look over the desert menu. After a quick look at the menu I saw a dish that intrigued me — ooey gooey(served with coconut parfait and tea-scented cherries). I really enjoyed this dish, the different flavours worked very well together! To go with my desert I noticed a drink on their menu called Red espresso. I asked the waitress what it was and she explained it as a rooibos based caffine-free drink, flavoured with cinnamon and honey. I was sold and ordered myself a latte. I really enjoyed the red espresso and found out that I could purchase red espresso to brew at home at a shop in South Fremantle called The Little Concept. Overall it was another delicious meal at The Pickled Fig. Christine who was our waitress on this day was also fantastic at dealing with us as well as all the other customers on this busy weekend. I will be back for sure!

I used to swear by the fig when they were only at Trigg.. was happy when pickles and naked opened and my love affair continued… Today, I am torn between mixed emotions over the Pickled Fig, and the figs in general. Has selling out to multi outlet business ruined the organic business that was what I loved at Trigg the original wild fig… Now, I know it is winter… so maybe the fig enters that hibernation mode that beach side business enter over the colder months… Greeted by a shop that looks old and tired, to be told now the fig doesn’t provide table service we just order and pay as we go… What used to be a business that thrived on energy and spirit.. now is a sad shell of what once was. . With Perth abounding with beautiful places to eat… I fear the fig may be renegade to a place I visit as friends want to go and I have no choice.

We’ve been once before, and couldn’t fault service or food. But this public holiday I think we just made bad menu choices. The pork belly open sandwich should probably have mentioned that it would come slathered in sugary barbecue sauce and taste like bad Chinese food. Really quick service though, especially for a busy public holiday, just a shame about the exorbitant prices and below average food.

Nice food, nice interior and nice location. A little pricey, but not bad for a special occasion. Would come again! Ps try the pork belly!

Went here with a friend, her husband and their gorgeous dog. That’s one of the great things about this place you can bring your dog. We only had coffee but the menu was packed with lots of lovely sounding breakfast items and treats. It overlooks(if you get the right seat) the beach and hearing the waves crashing while sipping on a lovely tasty coffee was the perfect end to a long walk along the doggy beaches.

I thought the Pickled Fig was pretty rundown(particularly outside), with tatty ripped umbrellas and the table we were at was cracked and chipped on the side. Staff were very friendly and personable. Our wine and entrée(scallops) came out quickly. The scallops were lovely. We then had an approx 45 minute wait for our chicken salads to arrive. Apparently the order never went through to the kitchen. Other than the apology, there was no ‘compensation’. The salad was ok… The waitstaff told me there was rocket in the salad(even though it wasn’t listed on the menu), I didn’t have any rocket in my salad. The main greenery was coriander. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten so much coriander. The salad was very heavily dressed and had a large pool of oily liquid at the bottom of my plate.

After only going to the Wild Fig in Scarborough and waiting a rediculous amount of time to be served, drinks to come out, orders taken etc, my expectations werent very high of the sister café down the coast. I was however pleasantly surprised by the promptness of the meals and friendliness of the staff. The brunch menu is yummy and i highly reccommend trying the green smoothie(i think it was called the paleo protein or something like that). It had a strange texture(think blended avocados) with a refreshing pow! as the mint hits the tastebuds…

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Pickled Fig, but the Naked Fig is my favourite breakfast spot so I was looking forward to it. Pickled Fig was a bit of a disappointment. My friend accidentally booked for 4 instead of 5, but when we asked if we could move, or add a smaller table to ours, the waitress was downright rude and told us we couldn’t do either. We then squished a fifth chair onto the table of 4, and she told us not to let it get in the way. Her attitude was pretty terrible to be honest. We opted only to have mains as we weren’t particularly hungry. It was vegetarian night, so my friends ordered the Thai green curry and the vegetarian lasagna. Both were delicious, the lasagna was massive and tasted amazing. I chose the pasta, with vegies and smoked bacon. The pasta and the sauce itself had a great flavour, but the bacon was chewy and fatty and I think it was mostly rind which was very disappointing! I think in this case I was just unlucky, because the curry and the lasagna were just amazing!

The Pickled Fig, compared to the Naked Fig, was more casual in my eyes. We arrived after dark but I gathered there isn’t the same stunning view despite being right on the beach. A sand mound blocked any potential water view but I’m sure the sunset is still incredible. Being on the back of an apartment block, it seemed like families and regulars were dining on a Thursday night. The interior décor was a bit of an over-the-top mishmash. The actual restaurant itself and kitchen façade was quite nice. The octopus chrome lights and bright orange damask fabric definitely seemed cold to an overall friendly/homely place. My dish, which was a vegetarian pumpkin special, was out of this world. Absolutely amazing and should certainly be adopted in their regular menu. The mister’s dish was a bit lackluster(barramundi). I tasted it and wasn’t dazzled either, especially when compared to mine. The dessert menu with three options didn’t peak our interest but the cocktails looked amazing when served to a nearby table. Staff was very friendly. I enjoyed the coupon in the Entertainment guide, but with it not being BYO, I’m not sure if we saved any money. It was definitely a nice evening out and the jams playing were an interesting mix from Pachelbel to 90’s hits.

Went here for lunch … The wagyu steak burger my partner had was AMAZING … I had the angel hair pasta with bugs which was lovely but I have had better … they used bitter in the sauce not olive oil, and while it was lighter it wasn’t as flavorsome. The green smoothie as always was a huge hit, and great to help a hangover! Service was lovely … Although they did forget to show us the specials :) And the choice of cakes … see picture … delicious! !!!

We went on a Thursday morning so it was fairly quiet and we had no trouble getting a table. I thought the staff were great — very attentive and service was prompt and friendly. Our orders were taken and food was delivered promptly, the staff kept checking to make sure we didn’t need anything else, and this is a strange thing to notice but I loved how easy it was to settle the bill — their POS system is very efficient. There are quite a few options on their breakfast menu which I appreciated. There are some sweet and savoury options and quite reasonably priced. I also liked that they offer some quirky twists on classic dishes like the waffles that my boyfriend ordered. I was quite impressed that they were happy to modify their menu items — I chopped and changed a few things and they were happy to whip up what I asked for. I think too many places are rigid with their menu and refuse to change even simple elements of the dish. The views are great and the atmosphere is quirky and fun — I really enjoyed the theming and fun lighting. I’d definitely like to come back to try the lunch menu!

Very nice little spot with some very unique styles attached to it — in both terms of good and decoration. I’ve only been for breakfast so far but am certainly intrigued to go back to try a different meal after my first two experiences. The menu certainly offers quite some variety with the most recent addition being Banoffee waffles, which I had today. Very nice little meal that I’d recommend giving a go, though I’m a little bias as I’m obsessed with all things Banoffee. Pricing is decent, service times were quick though it was pretty busy and considering how out of the way it is, it manages to attract big crowds. Give it a go! Updating to 4 stars after having a few brunches here. Great food, quick service.

Ok, Ok! So I have made many a disparaging remark about the consistency of sub-standard quality(in general) of beach side cafes or places with a view in the Perth area. Well kids, I stand corrected. Today I went to the Pickled Fig, in the mid afternoon on the first sunny arvo in Perth since Winter. It was very busy at the beach and even busier in the café. I know — recipe for disaster, or so I thought. We jagged an outside table fairly easily. The tricky part was jagging a person to take our order. There seems to be no system amongst the lovely accented backpackers all waiting on the tables. Tables do not seem to be attributed to any waiter or waitress. They’re all over the place. But once I was able to catch one in the bear trap I set, the meals came out insanely quickly afterwards. And oh wow! The hand made tortellini bursting with mushroom and herbs, topped by shredded sweet basil, dollops of goat’s cheese and resting in a delicious red jus, it was heaven. The salt, pepper and chilli squid on a linguine and bocconcini«salad» was also great. Despite the squid pieces being quite crusted, it was sinfully crispy delicious, whilst the squid meat remained soft within. These pieces were hot(fresh cooked). I’m not sure of the reason behind the linguine being served cold underneath, ie: «salad», but perhaps because it would be more convenient for the chef to make a large batch and just dish it up as ordered, preparing the squid fresh each time? But really, if it were to be served hot, I think it would only make this dish better. It was still damn good. The affogato my companion had afterwards was an espresso placed on a dish, served next to a large glass containing lashings of creamy vanilla ice cream — a really hefty serve. It was wonderful. So the loss of the star is for the haphazard service and the weird policy of us only being able to order from part of the menu after a certain time. And not because they’ve run out of the other things. Oh no, only entrees, salads and ‘sides’ permitted after a certain time; the time we were there. All in all, consider me a reformed automatic critic of seaside dining options in Perth. End note: The cakes and tall drinks being ferried to the other tables also looked fabulous. Something for next time, perhaps.

A decent interior, in a great location with fantastic views is consistent throughout all of the Fig Cafes along the coast. We couldn’t get a table at the café when we went down for breakfast because they were fully booked with a waiting list, and we were advised you really need to book a table well in advance. We decided not to wait for a table and to grab a couple of muffins and drinks to go. We ended up waiting 20 minutes for a takeaway coffee and tea and 2 muffins, not ideal.

It has been a lengthy break since we last dined at the pickled fig, but today was our day. Soaking up the beautiful rays outside we ordered the lamb shanks, chorizo and squid salad and the child’s pizza for the grommet. The salad had well cooked proteins with a vinegairette that I found to enhance the overall dish but I could have done with a little less. The shanks were presented well, and had a spiced base to compliment the lamb, the cooking of the lamb could have been a little longer to produce a fall of the bone texture. The hobbit pizza was quite pleasant with a fresh tomato base, sliced tomato and a handful of greens. A small downer to the experience was a second mango smoothly that was ordered, but seemed to have the mango omitted. The service was fairly solid for the beachside café, and we received our dishes in quick time. Overall an enjoyable meal with fantastic weather. Food 7.5÷10 service 7⁄10
