Great atmosphere for young people. Food is always on point. Love the ping pong table too. Always will love this place.

Pretty pricey menu for a student crowd, but still gotta love the chilled out, college sports bar atmosphere. It’s a cool place to just hang with friends for a drink and a cheeseburger and to have a few friendly games of ping pong. Sometimes it does get a bit too loud inside and you end up screaming at each other over the music though

You gotta love varsity bar, I’d go so far to say the best burgers in Perth. My favourite is the Texan burger, double patty, cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce and the crispy tobacco onions –AMAZING! The chips are also to die for with this awesome crispy, beer batter, season style coating. The do a daily special at lunch with a different burger or dog for $ 15 With a beer or wine. Other recommendations would be the BBQ jerk chicken pizza, with fresh coriander, pineapple and chilli. Also keep an eye out for the milkshakes that look like they are on steroids and the peanut butter and banana burger

A neon green $ 12 frozen margarita, o the simple things. The place is perpetually packed with students, drinking & chatting. Sports lovers will enjoy the various forms of ball kicking & throwing on display. I prefer it when the dance floor’s going but each to their own. A casual hang-out for all seasons, summer playing ping-pong outside, winter huddled inside on the comfy couches & football season by the screens.

As an American, I wish they had more AMERICAN beers(no, I don’t want Coors, but a ShockTop would be epic). That being said, there’s MURICAH written all over this place. Be aware, it gets busy. ESPECIALLY on Trivia Night. I had the beet burger(very unAmerican of me) and it was DANK. I don’t even like beets(didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I ordered the veggie burger), but this thing was phenomenal. I wish I could reproduce it. Chips are standard for Australia, but the onion rings are a welcome change. Fried pickles were ordered(and demolished) as well. What I wish they had on the menu: FRIED Oreos, FRIED Snickers, FRIED Twinkies. True American items haha All in all, it was everything two American girls were after, even if we did feel really old(nearing 30, while the bulk of the clientele is from the nearby uni). Plus, SPORTS! And what looked like duck hunt in the back. Have been to Varsity everytime I’ve been back to Perth since our first visit.

First impressions lasts and when i first set foot through the doors(well entrance as it didn’t really have a door), i thought i was in the USA. Great vibe for a thursday night, filled with chattering uni students, few business suits, music and NBA on the tv screens. We ordered the recommended texan burger with bacon which was very yummy and double cheese burger with jalapeños and an onion ring in the middle which was tasty. The chips were an experience on their own. Crispy, light but sooooooo good its a must try. Would i be back? Yes tomorrow!

Burgers are the not-so-new thing in town but I do still love a good burger, and Varsity make great burgers. It is an American themed bar with pizza, burgers, wings, steak sandwiches etc. I had the double cheeseburger deluxe which was so big, I had difficulty getting my mouth around it(insert cheeky innuendo comment like«that’s what she said» here!). I couldn’t finish the burger as it was too much, so only order the double if you are hungry! The burgers all come served with beer battered chips, which is a nice touch. The patties were juicy and it was great. Varsity Bar is a university pub so be prepared to feel like an oldie in there, though there were others older than us on our visit. They also do drink and food specials which change according the day of the week, so suss them out too.

We had a big group eat here for dinner and couldn’t fault it. The food was incredible and the service was fast and friendly. I’m a big fan of the sports bar vibe and they do it really well. Not really the place to go if you’re looking for a quiet meal but definitely worth checking out even if just for those hot wings, perfection

I heard about Varsity Bar from a friend that said he would no longer eat burgers from anywhere else in Perth so I had to try one for myself. I had the Pimento and I was not disappointed. Burger patties were just a touch pink which added the tenderness you expect from a burger. The pimento cheese gave the burger a kick. I look forward to trying a Sub next time I visit.

I prefer the laid back outdoor digs of their sister venue in Northbridge. Varsity Burgers are the best in Perth(Novembars is right up there though). I like how hidden this venue is, and I also really like how well they have nailed down that American Sports Bar feel. Their wings and burgers really capture North American eats better than any other venue in Perth that has tried. I come here when I am feeling homesick, it’s not Canada but it’s as close at I’ll get in Perth. Also on Thursdays, $ 5 burgers!

Perfectly executed cheeseburger with what I say was exactly the right ratio of medium-rare patty /melted cheese and pickley mayo. Side serve of superb beer battered crispy chips rounded it off. The request to serve the burger cut in half for sharing was met with a bonus of a dill gherkin attached to the bamboo stick holding each half upright. It’s nowhere near my ‘hood but I will be dreaming about that burger for some time. This means I will be back. I love a burger that doesn’t explode on first bite.

Ok… I had heard a lot about this place from other people but kinda thought«yeah, whatever it can’t be that great.» As it turns out… it’s actually really impressive. The food is on the reasonable-to-pricy side of things but if you’re looking for a place to go out for a really tasty burger or sub then this is definitely the place to go. The only issue with Varsity is that they don’t do bookings so you kinda gotta act like a vulture if you’re going with a group of people. Or be prepared to sit scattered throughout the establishment. Pretty much all the food comes with a side serve of fries so this is definitively a place to save for a cheat meal(or two). Definitely be a return customer… just might need to give it a couple of months so I can work of the last meal I ate there. Oh! And you get discounts for checking into Unilocal too!

Varsity Bar in Nedlands has been on my to-visit list for ages, fueled largely by pictures of amazing looking burgers & shakes on Instagram. We arrived at around midday on a Saturday and were surprised to find the place was already very busy. Luckily enough, we scored a table outside where it was a little more peaceful and less bar-like. There’s plenty of seating in the outside area, including comfy couches so this is a great place to catch up with friends. Drink-wise there was only one choice for me — the«Bacon & Salted Caramel» shake($ 7), uniquely served in a Pyrex jug which was nice but I couldn’t taste any bacon. Onion rings($ 8) are an absolute favourite of mine and I’m happy to see them appearing on more menus around town. These were crisp and some of the lightest I’ve had anywhere. One thing that really impressed us was the speed that the food arrived, even though there were plenty of customers. I ordered the Coney Dog with beef chilli con carne, cheese whip and diced onion, chilli & jalapenos($ 20) which was a substantial meal and the cost was well justified. The beef chilli wasn’t too spicy, but when eaten with the diced chilli on top there was plenty of heat to go around. Very nice indeed. My wife ordered a simple cheeseburger, and I’m not sure if it was the brioche bun, patty, cheese, «Varsity mayo» or finely diced pickles but this thing tasted amazing. Easily the best«simple» burger I’ve ever eaten — and only $ 12! We really enjoyed our lunch at Varsity Bar, but it’s not the kind of food or venue that’s going to appeal to everyone. Fine dining it isn’t, and whenever you go it’s likely to be busy and full of students — I wouldn’t dare go near this place at night! If you enjoy a good burger or hot dog, this is one of the best, if not the best, place in Perth. I can’t wait to go back and try another burger.

A lunch date on my Friday off with the 19 year old daughter found us at Varsity Bar. I not so secretly wanted to go somewhere that she felt comfortable at. As we pulled into the crowded underground parking I was having my doubts about what kind of dump I was taking her to. But was quite surprised when we walked thru the little alley into a bustling courtyard of eateries and shops that made the 19 year old gasp with pleasure! Varsity Bar was her new favourite place. The lunch time crowd in the bar was a little overwhelming at first but we found a comfy couch nook and menus. The menu is NOT for the diet conscious. So I had to immediately denounce the diet for the day and plow headlong off the wagon choosing a notorious pig, onion rings, a fried chicken waffle for her, peanut butter and chocolate milkshake and a gingerbeer. Order at the counter. Food arrived quickly and looked amazing. And we knew that we had ordered way too much! No amount of trying would have seen us get thru all of the food and it wasn’t that we did not give it a red hot go! For what the bar is, the food and drinks are awesome, perfect, on point. One star less than five only because it’s a little exy. The staff were lovely, the place is set out well, ping pong tables, pool tables, big screens couches and tables! What more do you need? We definitely will be back!

Was I in a Uni bar in America? Sure felt like it! Varsity Bar is set in Nedlands close to UWA hence the University feel — seems like a students and sport lovers haunt but with such a cool vibe and American style dining it’s great! :) Food is yum! Very American style, I shared the Texan a double cheeseburger with bacon, tobacco onions and smoky BBQ sauce it was yummy and very filling! Also got the Devil Hot Wings and hot damn it is hot! Gotta have a bit of spice in life :) Prices are reasonable for both food and drinks. Cool hang out and catch up with friends kind of place and also to come and watch some sports here. Will definitely be returning to this place. Varsity Varsity Varsity Oi Oi Oi!!! :D

I really like Varsity and have been at least 4 times in the past year — year and a half. The food is generally good and the place is busy. Varsity was busy tonight and we needed to wait awhile for a table. There is no booking for a table less than 12, which is inconvenient as you then need to wait and hover around ppl until they leave. I know it’s a venue well known to UWA students and obviously the clientele is young, however that doesn’t mean you should treat anyone not in their early to mid 20s rudely. We were very annoyed tonight when a young blonde pushed to the front of the ordering queue. The guy taking the order didn’t even acknowledge us, or those behind us in the line, he happily took her order and paid no attention to us at all. The irony in this situation was the pretty young blonde couldn’t pay for her food order and she asked for a bottle of tap water. We had a table of 4 so our order was more than just the $ 12 wings. The young will be young, but don’t be rude to actual paying customers Varsity, this kind of service is uncalled for and nothing like the friendly and super attentive staff in the US. The food was ok tonight but we couldn’t work out which was the bbq and which was the hot sauce — the both tasted similar and neither was hot. There were a couple of pieces in both servings that had slight chilli in them. So to summarise, less than average service and not impressed with the food tonight either!

Tucked away in a little shopping complex in Nedlands varsity bar is pumping! A space transformed into an American bar/frat house with mismatched couches, pool tables, ping pong and an NBA game on in the background. Every weeknight they have a different special and Tuesday is wings night! I was instantly transported back to my days in NYC the wings were epic we also ordered deep fried pickles and chili cheese fries. This place was so much fun and wicked for groups and even a fun family outing. I can’t wait to go back for cheeseburger Thursdays!

MYABSOLUTEFAVORITEAMERICANBAR! Whenever I miss food from home I come straight here. Their fried pickles are so good… so good that I went home for a visit and had fried pickles and missed Varsity Bar’s fried pickles more. Cheese burgers are mouth watering delicious as well as the hot wings! Try the death sauce on the side! So good but not for all! THEYHAVEBLUEMOONONTAP!!! If you are American you would be jumping out of your shoes with excitement like I did! Service is great and they always have great events! WORTHEVERYBITE!

As soon as you walk in the comment is «Well this is pretty cool!» Not many places in Perth share that vibe of pure fun, relaxed, socialising at it’s best! I do love the décor and set up of it all. Food is pretty good! Creative in the sense that they try and stray from the Aussie basics and try and be authentically American as possible. I’m not usually one for everything being fried, but I still tried each of my friend’s dishes and they were pretty darn yummo! The bar, pool table, multiple tv’s, live band, gaming section, outdoor area, seated couches– everything was just a student’s dream. Service is lovely and they were all great help, it just got a bit awkard when it got quite loud and you couldn’t hear a thing that was being said. I think I’ll come here again when I have been super healthy for a week and am starving to really appreciate all the fried goodness they have to offer!

Decided to have lunch at Varsity with my 3yr old daughter, it was a very unexpected location, but for some reason it works. Luckily there is a lot of parking at the shopping centre. The bar staff were super friend and accommodating for me and my daughter and nothing was a problem. Offering us high chairs, kids plastic cups for water etc. I ordered the double cheese burger for us to share and also the jalapeño garlic bread. We didn’t have to wait very long for out order which was great when dining with kids. The burger was so juicy and tasty, probably the best I’ve had in perth in a long long time. The jalapeño garlic bread was quite mild and the bread was crispy, my daughter loved the bread. Would love to come back to try more of the menu.
