A quick Saturday night family dinner. Overall a good meal and probably a 7⁄10. Staff friendly and I always like the atmosphere in there. Meals are huge so a good idea is to order a few meals and share them. The schnitzels are cooked well and the go to dish. My wife had a cocktail but it apparently was quite weak. Go early and also get some other happy hour offers. Desserts are a rip off for what u pay and what u get and better off getting some gelato from another café on Willoughby Rd. Beers extensive and taste great!

That was terrible beyond belief. Walk in all excited as Bavarian Manly is amazing so we thought Bavarian Crows Nest would be too. Wrong. 1⁄10 for Bavarian Crows Nest. My best friend and I thought«Mmmm über schnitzel yum» I start eating my über schnitzel and it was undercooked, oily, soggy, chewy and so bland that it was like eating a rubber ball. I eat ¼ of the food. My best friend eats hers and she is disgusted by the taste. She has oil dripping down her chin from the chicken. Tells me it’s too oily, undercooked and rubbery. She eats 1⁄3 of her food. My partner was excited for his chicken club and he ate half his food. He ate the chips, my chips and his bread. On the way home my bestie got such bad stomach cramps from the food that she nearly threw up in my car!!! The food was just revolting!!! 1÷10… Not good!!! Greasy, undercooked and disgusting!!! Think I’m going to throw up!!! The service was ok though!

The Bavarian Bier Café offers up a great food menu, with a mixture of classic German dishes and modern cuisine — I recommend the Bavarian Tasting Platter, especially if you’re having trouble choosing. There’s also an extensive list of beers to try, along with a decent wine list. However, it could do with being a bit cheaper — the final bill always comes out as higher than I would expect, especially given how much cheaper most local pubs are. It’s good to go with a group, and be seated along one of the long bench tables, otherwise it’s a little lacking in atmosphere.

Good place. The litre beers are always good. Atmosphere is a little dull for a Sunday sesh but the food makes up for it. Comfort food and beer for sure.

If airport café quality food is what you’re after, then come here. Frozen calamari, soggy chips, high prices(for what you actually ordered) and the food comes out nice and slow.

The staff are all efficient. Yes they are very good looking(are you even allowed to say that out loud?). The food is only a few steps above Pub Grub or RSL food that’s not say it was bad or anything but at the prices they charge I would have expected better.

Great beer but the food is average and overpriced for something that is shipped from a central kitchen.

Amnesia? Want it? Come here and knock over 5 or 6 litres… The BBC is that heady mix of gigantic german brews, gigantic pork schnitzel and gorgeous serving girls with shirts that look like they’ve shrunk 6 sizes in the wash barely covering gigantic… Hey hey! Well, you get the picture. I’ve been here a few times, with some big lads that can drink, so don’t ask me to tell you more about the place cos I seriously don’t remember it!

The beer is awesome. Love the atmosphere of this place. I had the chicken parmigiana and it was really good.

Hmmmmm — the positive are the poritions of food are really good. The service leads alot to be desired for? I couldnt work out whether the staff recruit straight from Hooters and the short skirts are encouraged or not. Over all average and slightly over priced.

Seriously, are any of the bar staff old enough to be working here? As Zelda says, all the young gorgeous things seem to be gathered. The fitout is nice — smart wood and casual with large open front to the pavement — booths, tables and communal tables all available, and friendly staff willing to help. We wandered in with a couple of Free Beer coupons from Taste of Sydney that we thought we would have a crack at, on our way up the road for a Thai meal. Actually, she thought we would have a crack, I thought we were not a sh*t show. To my surprise and delight they honoured the coupons and sat us down with a couple of half pints. I love German beer — and that is saying something as I am not a big beer fan. And German food? Man heaven! So when the menu appeared, and I saw the largest thing on it was a platter with pork belly, 5 different types of sausage, a pickled pork cutlet(I think, or maybe a ham steak) and chicken schnitzel, Thai wasn’t really going to get a look in, now was it. To my surprise she agreed, and before you could say Auf Weidershen we had ordered a meal and another half. The meal arrived very quickly, and OMG the pork! The pork was divine, a large chunk of not-too-fatty belly with a lovely crispy cracking, sausages to delight the palate, and a moist tender schnitzel. The green stuff on the plate was sauerkraut and something else, with mashed spud — I mean, really, who cares? It’s all about the MEAT! Her veal schnitzel was moist and flavoursome, and the fries were excellent — yes I did manage to snag a couple, although she defended deftly. So I was unexpectedly impressed. We wil be back. Give it a whirl, I suggest.

Bring on the spray tanned, cowbell clanging gorgeous waiter gals and guys. All with friendly air-brushed smiles(no, I looked really hard and no cranky, old, overweight, ugly wait staff to be found in this place). It’s like the where all the beautiful peeps have come to work and superior race jokes aside I like this place — liked it in Manly by the sea when I went there for my friend Nick’s birthday and like that it’s come to Crows Nest. I was here the other night with hubby and we were trying to piece it all together. Although I was miffed they had run out of German strawberry bubbly(my fave) and had to settle instead for a gold one we were somehow amused, wondering how this place seemed to be filling in the gap for testosterone choice. It’s the sort of place that a gal could suggest and the bloke would be instantly agreeable! The super cute gals would have definitely something to do with it(and way less obvious and tacky than Hooters) and also the wall of glistening bier steins gleaming like sports trophies. And then there IS the cowbell factor! It’s like shining a big bright spotlight on shot tossing! The group table behind us was getting lots of cowbell attention and throwing back lots of shots bringing that cowbell clanging gal running backwards and forwards. After finishing our dessert(yummy apple strudel but the pastry base was a bit heavy and thick) we left. As we were walking up the street four or five shops away from the place there was the cowbell again. This time for an outside table full of guys. If this sounds like fun I hate to admit it — it is!

When I saw there was going to be a new addition to the growing restaurant precinct on Willoughby Road — the first question in my mind was, does Crows Nest really need a Bavarian Bier Café? The boyf seemed quite excited about it, probably more to do with the fact that his Jagerschnitzel would never be too far from his doorstep(or that he didn’t have to have Thai again!). We finally had an opportunity tonight to try it out, but we had 40min to chow down on some veal. Could they do it? Staff quickly assured us that most of the patrons at the restaurant were drinking and we would be able to get a rushed order. We thought«OK!» and were quickly shown to a table that was out of the way of all the noise(it was pretty loud in there, the noise does seem to bounce off the walls). We ordered two pretzels($ 3.50 each) and two Jagerschnitzels(Pan-Fried Veal, Mushroom Sauce & Sautéed Potatoes $ 29.50 each), but no beer as we already had one each before we arrived. No matter, we got our pretzels and butter soon enough(not fresh unfortunately, a bit chewy?) and weren’t even halfway through them when our Jagerschnitzels and mash arrived(the mash doesn’t normally come with it but we traded whatever potatoey thing was there for the mash). The staff were professional and attentive enough and hey they also got a tick in the attractivenes category, but i’m wondering if they all get a spray-tan before they start their shift? They all look like they moonlight as nightclub promogirls, which wouldn’t surprise me if they were hired from the same agency! Anyway I’m getting off-topic, but for some Unilocalers this may have been something of note ;) So the Jagerschnitzels were great, not as great as the one in Manly(who also notably have freshly baked pretzels), and not as bad as the York St BBC, so it’s somewhere in the middle. But to my original question, is there a need for a BBC in Crows Nest? The first thing I noticed was how clinical the restaurant felt when I walked in? It really didn’t make me think of those awesome beerhalls in Munich or the cosy resturants I’ve been to in rain-drenched Fussen, Bavaria. I suppose when you consider the only other option is Stuyvestant’s on Alexander St, I suppose it’s an easy choice — I’d rather clinical and franchisey than cheesy!
