I stumbled across this yym cha today and the staf are really friendly and accomodating and everything is really fresh and tasty! Recomend this to anyone looking for yum cha at lunch :)

Surprisingly it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe after a low expectation the only way is up… The green beans were amazing. Fried spring rolls too but who could mess that up. For other dimsum they are ok.

It’s been many years since I’ve had dinner here(so won’t comment), but I recently had yum cha here for the first time. It’s the only yum cha place in Crows Nest, although there’s plenty of options in Chatswood, not that far away. The food was pretty good, mainly standard yum cha fare, and the service was also fairly standard for yum chat.(Never that good, but you get someone’s attention in the end.) However, the prices were notably higher than you would pay for yum cha elsewhere, due to the lack of competition compared to Chatswood and Chinatown.

How this place gets hatted is a mystery to me. The dumplings are OK but the service is atrocious. We play a game trying to guess how many different ways the staff will ignore you — especially if you’re ‘gueilo’. They’re often openly hostile to patrons. If you want good yum cha, save your bucks and travel a bit farther north to the Ryde RSL. Better food, cheaper prices and most importantly hospitable staff.

I have walked past here many times and shaken my head at the queues out front. Why? Why oh why? Well, the day came when there was no queue, we were hungry, and yum cha seemed like a god idea! And it was! These guys do yum cha all day, 7 days a week, so plenty of fresh stuff and plenty to choose from. Like most very efficient establishments of this type, nothing was too much bother. Table for 10 sir? Give me a few minutes — and before you know it they are rolling out the big table top and unstacking chairs and there you go. Yum cha for two is a tough game — I like lots and lots to choose from, and she has an aversion to deep fried(and you wanted yum cha? Seriously?) however we managed a good compromise — lots of steamed dumplings, peking duck pancake and deep fried prawns for me, share some chilli beans(awesome!) and of course one of those egg custard tarts — all washed down with as much green tea as we could drink. A bit pricey, but very good. Likely to be regulars, I suspect.

Been here twice, once for yum cha, once for dinner. The yum cha is definitely better. Went for yum cha on a Sunday afternoon and then another Sunday for dinner, didn’t have to book either times. The restaurant is pretty big and can accommodate groups. The yum cha is tasty but can get a little pricey. Overall some pretty good dishes. When I went for dinner, we ordered the peking duck, which I thought was pretty tasty but my cousin said it wasn’t presented properly — with one slice of cucumber and no green onion, and too much hoison sauce. The lettuce wraps were a bit salty and didn’t have the traditional water chestnuts. The seafood chow mein was good, the veggies were a bit bland. Overall it was a decent dinner, but nothing spectacular. One exciting thing was that the bathroom had toilet seat covers! It’s probably more exciting for me as an American living in Sydney and missing toilet seat covers.

With the demise(or, at the very least, the relocation) of Checkers, it emerges that Sea Treasure is probably the foremost option for yum cha on the northern side of the Bridge. And this is no fiat by default: the selection here is top notch and all the staples are executed perfectly. I am always too satisfied with the classics of yum cha to order from the Sea Treasure collection in the front tanks, however, you can indulge in the time-honoured tradition of selecting your feast as it swims before you. I don’t come here very often, as it is a trek north that would ignore several other comparable restaurants, but when I do find myself up in Crows Nest, it’s a tough option to ignore.

If you find the idea of Sunday Yum Cha too irresistible but find the experience of Chinatown all a bit too difficult then think about a trip to Sea Treasure. Situated in Crows Nest this Chinese and Yum Cha joint rivals anything you’ll get in Chinatown, complete with the ease of parking right outside. You won’t be missing out on any atmosphere either — Sea Treasure is consistently busy, but never so that you can’t get a table. The specialty here is(you guessed it) sea food! I am never a fan of the live fish moving ominously in giant tanks but if you can get passed this, any of the seafood dishes here are excellent. Yum Cha runs from 10 – 3 on the weekends and the set menu takes over in the evenings.

From time to time I get a Yum Cha craving and if it happens to be the weekend I head to Sea Treasure in Crow’s Nest for its convenience of location and early Yum Cha start which is 10am. Sea Treasure has massive fish tanks that have fish and crustaceans peering out from you and big abalone stuck to the walls like big sponges you can select if you so wish and have them cooked in front of you. However we come with a Yum Cha mission on our minds as we patiently wait for each trolley to roll up to our table. The noise is insurmountable, trolleys creaking with wheels that sound like they need a good oil, the banging of china soup spoons against bowls and the ripping of paper to retrieve chopsticks to devour food. The sounds of people enjoying food is wonderful. Our order is long and continuous. Spinach, prawn sumei, salt and pepper calamari, pork buns, dumplings the order goes on right until we finish with the warm custard tarts. We always roll out of Sea Treasure with pure satisfaction and the knowing that we have just had great value for money for such a wonderful meal. Until next time Sea Treasure!
