What a cool little place! It’s definitely one that you could blink and miss if you walk down the street, but luckily as we walked past we could make out the sounds of music from down the stairs. There are plenty of comfy couches if you want to settle in for the evening, but there’s also a great outdoor courtyard to hang out in as well as a music room where the DJ is set up. It wasn’t crowded on a Saturday night at 11 which is a bit questionable for being in such a hopping area of town, but quite frankly I think it’s just an undiscovered gem and you get the feeling from being in the bar that the owners are likely to have the mentality of «we’re not going to whore ourselves out to get people in here, we’re cool enough that if people find us then great but if not their loss.» Definitely will be back!

Hidden on the corner of Darlinghurst road you could very easily walk past this hole in the wall and not know it was there… but if by chance you see a bunch of über cool hotties walking through a hidden door, you’ve probably stumbled across Tatlers… Hidden down some stairs you’ll find a bar and a dance floor which plays home to bands, DJ’s and grovie hipsters. Tatlers always has an excellent vibe — it used to be tres popular a few years ago… and the fuss has died down since then, but you’ll still find it packed on a Saturday night… A great place to go if you feel like having a dance and letting loose…

Having lived in Sydney for most of my life I’m quite surprised to say it was my first trip to Tatlers the other night, a small club and live music venue located on Darlinghurst road in the Cross. If you’ve never been there before it’s a little difficult to find, a small doorway and a minute rectangular sign above it are the only way to identify you’ve come to the right place. Though once you’re in and have descended the staircase to the welcoming venue below, you’re sure not to forget it. A small carpeted area with tables is the first room on your right and is also where the bar is located, there are then another two rooms, the first room usually being where the musicians play and an outside deck area with some seating and tables. The night my wife and I went was a Wednesday. There was a live band playing and afterwards a live jam session for musicians, luckily the crowd was older than your typical right out of school crowd looking to booze it up at Soho or World bar at the Cross, with a mix of musicians and what seemed to be regulars. Apart from being a little left out of the clique that seemed to have formed amongst the muso’s, the night was alot of fun. A lot of soulful tunes, dancing, some jamming and improvising too by the musicians. Definitely coming back here, a really fun night out.
