This is a cute little quirky corner in Darlinghurst with tasty morsels to eat and pretty damn good coffee! The food tastes healthy, you can pretty much choose a salad or sandwich version of similar things. Make sure you have patience as I have been there a few times now and each time its been a decent wait for my food– but I have always had good company so never minded and the coffee has arrived briskly which is very important! Would for sure give it a try if you’re around and want to be surrounded my great friendly staff who are obviously passionate and happy working at Youeni!

I went to score a sandwich at South Dowling Street sandwiches today and since they are a cash only business, I simply walked the five steps across the way to Youeni. Holy cow… divine intervention on my part but by the looks of the crowd and the quality of the food and as a previous poster mentioned; the staff I was never so thrilled with my cash brokenness. I had my bike and when one of the staffers saw my concern with leaving it outside, he said to bring it in and place it next to the fireplace. Hit. «do you take credit cards?» «of course we do.» Hit. I had the pulled pork sandwich and being an American, I am used to the meat being cooked in BBQ sauce and then placed on a bun. This being Oz and me getting surprised at the food quality time and again, it was cooked nicely and lacking the sloppy(although not bad tasting flavor of BBQ… it’s America guys… we just do it different) build of its American cousin. I am not quite sure what they would call the cooking style. It just tastes good. Hit. See you guys again real soon and thanks for the love.

I always enjoy youeni, I tend to drop by when I’m on holidays, or on the way to work for takeaway coffee — if there’s a park out front on South Dowling St. I just like it because in many ways youeni feels like I’m visiting friends. It’s true the food aims to be a little left-of-centre and organic, but they don’ really make a big deal about it. The best part(I think) is the price, most lunches are under $ 10 and you’ll always be served up something tasty and slightly creative(today I had a chicken and peach salad). The coffee is lovely. I know it can get busy so if you don’t like crowds, just go in the mid afternoon after the lunch rush. They’ll take their time preparing your food and will have time for a friendly chat as well. PS They have a great facebook page that updates regularly with news.

What a great location to watch the locals walk by; the hipsters, the alternatives, and even the 9-to-5’ers. I’ve recently learnt that Youeni is a great little company that offers artist space to promote themselves, and does short video’s and commercial advertising for a range of clients. I’m always welcomed by very loyal regular staff that always strike up an interesting conversation. This cosy rustic establishment feels like you’ve walked into somebodies pride and joy, and seconds as a grocery store for specialised organic produce. So if you don’t know blood orange and organic almond meal, then think of this as a culinary education. This home-style café Spearheaded by Chris Starke, a former pastry chef at Marque serves up a mean hangover cure of sliced avocado on sourdough, or slow roasted pork sandwich that literally melts in your mouth, the rich flavoursome coffee that gets the locals talking is a welcomed addition to any meal.
