Following a fantastic vegetarian meal last night, decided to wander down Docklands for some take away. Saw Man Mo reviews on Unilocal and sounded like a winner… So disappointed it was closed(on a Thursday night? Could be permanent). Found another Chinese restaurant called Lotus Chinese, but was full with bus tour groups. So went next door to the Aussie Steak ‘n’ Burger. Place was virtually empty, with only two tables of diners in a large restaurant. Anyway ordered the rib combo with BBQs sauce, not plum,(which I was told«is sort of a sweet chili sauce»). May be they were trying to win some Chinese customers off the tour buses.(Why do Chinese tourists want to eat Chinese food in Australia?) Food arrived, take away and I took it to my apartment to kick back and relax. Half rack of pork ribs and half beef ribs, slow cooked for eight hours then glazed with tangy BBQs sauce and charred on the grill, served with thick cut chips and a side salad with citrus Dijon dressing. Sounds delicious right! Wrong, everything was so fatty. Tender, yes but so oily that I could not eat it. Ate half a beef rib and a little pork rib and stopped there. And I love my steaks and ribs! The salad was good and I ate all the chips but felt I wasted my money on that meal. Expected better for my $ 49.95 take out. To be fair, the steaks and burgers might be great here but tonight the bulk of my dinner ended up in the bin.
