This newsagency-slash-post office is located in the middle of Duncraig Shopping Centre, an impressively self-contained little world of colour and custom-designed signage. It’s a big store and stocks everything: magazines, newspapers, greeting cards, postcards, stationary. The team behind the counter were very helpful in our ongoing quest to track down a parcel that had been waylaid, not that it was waylaid behind their counter, and not that they could do much for us other than suggest we contact the sender. Two things in particular struck me about this store. The first was its range of magazines, which was larger and more exhaustive than one usually finds in such a place. The other was the fact that there were an awful lot of children’s books about. It might just be that I have failed to notice the availability of children’s books in other such newsagencies, or that with Christmas fast approaching even the newsagency-slash-post offices are trying to capitalise, but I’m not sure that’s the case. This place had a fold-out table out the front with a whole heap of children’s books arranged on it. If you’re pregnant or have a couple of kids already, in other words, you might want to consider this newsagency-slash-post office as the place to buy your gifts. Though I doubt you will.
