Gorgeous venue and the food is fab! Staff are great too.

I do have a soft spot for the royal, nice view and the food is pretty decent, bit over priced, but a nice choice if you don’t want to go all the way into the city and want somewhere different to come now and again

This is a great place to drop by at the bar for a drink or have a relaxing dinner with a view. I have liked all the food so far and been there a few times. One fault was there was a mix up with orders so anyone with allergies should double check that the right order has been sent out. They were very apologetic and gave me a refund. Out of everything I’ve tried I recommend the barramundi on a bed of rissotto.

Menu has improved and prices are now within reach this dish was soft shell crab with crispy noodles and Asian slaw. For the better of $ 20 dollars this entrée size was enough for me for lunch. The pints are still pricey at around $ 11 – 14. Great atmosphere on a beautiful day when you sit outside on the terrace. Attached a photo of the salad.

Such a shame, a very nice venue, overlooking the picturesque man made lake in East Perth, unfortunately a bar is often only as good as it’s food. After well over an hour wait for meals to come out, 2 steaks had to be sent back because they were completely raw inside, medium rare was asked for. My fish was dry and overcooked, and none of the other meals were great but not as bad as the 3 mentioned already. It wasn’t exactly packed, so there’s no excuse for the wait, and never an excuse for poor cooking… The only reason it gets 2 stars is the atmosphere and friendly wait staff. I won’t be eating there again in the near future.

I took a friend here for a mid-week lunch who was visiting from Melbourne. Although it’s hard for Perth to compete with the Melbourne food scene, my friend was impressed with the lovely East Perth Cove and we enjoyed sitting outside the Royal for a few hours and sinking a few beers. The location is really everything in this neck of the woods, and occasionally you can spot a few dolphins frolicking about. On a summer evening or afternoon when it’s not too hot, it’s a great spot to sit outside and tuck into one of the light meals on offer. I enjoyed my dish of chicken skewers with flatbread, and at $ 22 I felt this was reasonably priced. My friend also enjoyed his dish of spaghetti marinara. We had a few draught beers and finished off with coffees, which were surprisingly good. Our waitress was brilliant really; friendly, efficient and seemed to love her job. Overall this was a pleasant experience. I don’t find the inside seating very inviting, so I probably wouldn’t bother unless I could get outside seating.

Group of 4 SATURDAY02/01/2016 We decided to go to The Royal before the Scorchers VS Sydney Sixers game. Being so close to the WACA we thought they would be busy however there were plenty of unreserved seats available. We were quick to decide what we would like to eat and went up to the bar to order. We were served promptly, given our order number and cutlery for three people although we had ordered 4 main meals and a pizza to share for entrée. After 20 minutes we saw a pizza walk around for 5 minutes however never stopped at our table. We waited a little longer and by a little longer we mean 45 minutes in total before we started to wonder when our entrée was as plenty of tables around us were now receiving food. As time was getting tight we decided to ask about our meals in which we were told they would be straight out. 30 minutes later our mains arrived and they went to take our number away when we then needed to remind them that we never received our pizza entrée. After having a discussion with who looked like the manager and questioning from him were we given a refund for the item we did not receive along with a remark that it had gone to another table. Finally we are tucking in to our meal and noticed that portion sizes are quite small for a pub and the price we had paid. Two of us had steak and were disappointed at how poor the quality of the meat was. One of us had the Beef Cheek which was okay. The meat was tender but the vegetables were questionable and the«cripsy» polenta was anything but crispy. One of us had the Chicken Skewers with Flatbread which was by far the best presented meal and the most value for money. Before we had all finished our meals they were starting to clear the table which if the restaurant was busy we would understand but at this time there were still plenty of empty spaces around. All in all, we won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

I love this place. It’s right on the waterfront where you can have a bite to eat, grab a glass(or bottle) of something and enjoy the sun. The staff are very attentive and look after you. There are two options for seating. Inside is nice and airconditioned however it’s quite bare and just doesn’t have the vibe of the outdoor seating. I recommend the 5 spice squid and the carafe of pimms and blackberry. This is Summer Winning!

Tried a few times and this time is really disappointed. I have tried the Lemon Meringue which is my usual favourite. However, the slice is just half of the size compare with normal. Also, the quality is really not up to par. Not sure if is holiday factor or any other reason. Either way, such quality is unacceptable. Should give one star but one more for the staff service.

Absolute lovely spot to have dinner or a few drinks right by water. We had dinner on the alfresco overlooking the gorgeously lit bridge and the evening was so peaceful. The food is quite pricey but it’s really good and the waitstaff are very attentive, making sure you’re nicely taken care of during your visit. I had the chicken breast with seasonal veg and my date had the steak, both meals were perfectly cooked and very delicious. I would recommend this place on a gorgeous summers evening.

This place need to sort out their food. Are they a pub or and overpriced restaurant? either way nothing is good enough for the prices. Prime real estate, yes, however the food is average and the same price as a five star restaurant with Michelin stars. The food was ok I am just confused.

Went there for a family 21st dinner in August was disgusted they put us out side in the freezing cold night, the gas heaters didn’t keep us warm, said they couldn’t fit a table of 11 inside although when we used the rest rooms there was plenty of room inside even a big enough table empty all night, have been there many times before not good enough won’t be going back.

This place was hopping! It has the best atmosphere, right on the water, lots of shade but with that lovely summer breeze coming off the water. The food is delish. Perfect serving sizes, beautifully presented and super fresh. Two of my friends and I had the crispy soft shell crab salad. So good! Everybody was very happy with their meals. I didn’t have a coffee but did have a lovely pot of tea for one to end the meal. My friend ordered an amazing ice coffee, almost to the likes I’ve never seen before. I recommend going along and having a bite and a beverage at this place out if you haven’t already. I would definitely take people here to show off one of the best places to eat & be that our gorgeous city has to offer!

Selection of tap beers is always what i look forward to the most at the Royal. I was there for a Friday lunch and the bar staff readily let me sample a few beers before I selected a pint. We sat outdoors and the vibe was chilled and relaxed. The fish and chips came out fast and were cooked to perfection, and they served it with REAL ketchup!(Not to be confused with tomato sauce). Great lunch spot.

Great location and lovely service. The royal is pretty much your standard pub but with a view. Came here for a Sunday lunch with the family and come 12pm the restaurant area was packed, so probably a good idea to book If you are coming for a meal. There is also more casual dining in the bar section which is first in best dressed for seating. The inside of the restaurant is a little outdated and very pub-ish, but nice and relaxed and it does seem to draw an older crowd. The food here was ok. Nothing too special but still not bad. It was lovely sitting outside overlooking the river and the location is perfect for a sunny afternoon, but I probably wouldn’t rush back.

Went here for Christmas work lunch. Lovely setting and always a crowd. Great drinks list, food not so good. There were approximately 20 of us & I did not hear one person say their food was good. If anything everyone I spoke to said it was below average. I understand they were busy that day but if you can’t give above average food then don’t serve it. I’d the root vegetable pasta, the pasta was over done & the vegetables tasted like they were all from different pots — some tender, some tough, some mushy. I would definitely go back for drinks just not food.

I’ve been here a few times. The location is great, décor is well suited. Simple and elegant. The menu provides lots of variety. Most recently went here for Fathers Day. The staff were all very nice. Food came out in a timely fashion. The food is worth the money. Very tasty and well presented. The only downside I can mention is that they asked for my credit card to secure our bill. I understand this for a bar tab but not for lunch for 4 adults and a child. They held my cc for the duration I was there. That being said, I would come fine again.

I had the atlantic salmon, scallops, and avocado. My date had the roast veges with lamb rump. To drink we were on apple martinis, ginger beer, rum, wine… no, we didnt overdo it… there were 4 of us. For entre we had pork belly, fried squid. For desert we had the lemon tart with cream. The whole experience was wonderful. It was dinner with the in-laws that we never get to see. When the conversation wained or went awkward, we talked about the delicious food. The service was exceptional. Worth the price tag. The constant attention made up for the 50 minute wait for food(they did warn us upfront too). The bartender even made the apple martinis to order, as they arent on the drinks list. I really enjoy that sort of service with a smile. After dinner we took a stroll around all the upmarket homes. An enjoyable night out that cant be faulted. Now I just have to pay off the credit card.

I like the fact that one a Fridays everyone finishes work and heads down to The Royal, they all look so dressed up in their work outfits and then get completely drunk. It’s hilarious. Their wedges are great. I haven’t really tried anything else. I hate their new policy that if you are drinking outside you have to be seated. Not even standing by your seat but sitting down. They also now have a waited standing at the door and you have to give him your drink whenever you are walking from the bar to your table which I find ridiculous. I wasn’t used to this and forgot a couple of times and then was threatened to be kicked out. Also I was drinking wine outside and my glass was smashed from a food number falling on it from the wind. I went to the bar and they bar tender just poured my wine into a new glass. I didn’t think anything of it until I realised I was probably drinking shards of glass from my old wine glass. The Royal has dropped a lot in my books and im confused how I feel about them now.
