I live in the US so shipping timely Christmas gifts to my friend in AU can be an adventure. I stumbled upon Third Drawer Down’s site and decided to give them a shot. Their selection of gifts is excellent and they even honored my request to write a note on the outside of the package to avoid ruining the Christmas surprise. Love the extra touch and will absolutely shop with them again.

My friend’s boyfriend and I once stripped down to my underwear in this shop. True story. Why? Well, I had visitors from New Zealand and wanted to show them a good time… so I took them to one of my all-time favourite stores. Which was just so happening to be putting on a contest. The first five people to strip would win gift bags. So off our clothes went, and off we later went, laden with Third Drawer Down merch. It was a good visit. I’ve also been there multiple other times, and kept my(and my friends’) clothing on the entire time we were browsing. This is my kinda store: the ever-changing trinkets, the nifty, the neat, the swell. You’ll never know what you’ll find next — except that it will make a great present for yourself or for your friends, strippers or otherwise. Definitely make the short walk off Gertrude and check it out. Pro tip: the coolest stuff is in the tiny back room.

They are a retailer of quirky little design objects that make great gifts and also consider themselves a museum of art souvenirs. This small store just around the corner from Gertrude on George St is dotted with interesting and curious knick knacks that amuse and delight and sometimes confuse too. I especially like their bed linen and tea towels, but I’ve yet to buy anything from here because I just find it all a bit too design driven. I reckon if my house was full of this I might feel like a bit of a wanker. Nice gifts though.

Third Drawer Down is a museum of art souvenirs store for those who haven’t heard. Lots and lots of cool«arty» products/art where it’s always a nice place to have a quick look through. It’s set up really well where all of the knick-knack pieces are set out on a nice wooden art table. Not sure how much they actually sell there but I’m always entertained by the eccentric and witty art pieces they have on show!

Not your average run-of-the-mill store, Third Drawer Down is one of those little stores that is just bursting with so much character. The more than meets the eye concept store stocks cheeky concepts, gimmicky homeware and fun little add ons for design afficianados and graphic lovers. Think whimsical pieces such as stools in the shape of extra large corn on the cob or cheeseburgers. Super-sized rulers, pencils and scissors, tiny pots of cactus, camera style cups and flasks and beautiful throw blankets with graphical twists. At one stage, they also carried ice cream cone shaped lamps but these beauties are now all sold. I love walking into this store because there is always something new and exciting to play with and discover. My most recent find was a dog chew toy in the shape of a large moustache and one with a large tongue — which when played with by a dog, makes the pooch look ridiculously funny! If you’re looking for a unique gift for someone fun, quirky and has a sense of humour, this is your store! Good times and great laughs, guaranteed!
