Atmosphere, service: 5 stars, big open area with 2 tvs. they also have a huge outdoor patio Drinks: 3 stars, ok selection, nothing really unique Food: 2 stars, over-priced and not so good… the cheese platter had more bread and fruit than cheese… the calamari came out looking like half was eaten before it got to our table. it should have come out on a smaller plate as to at least make it appear there is more food there. Overall, it was a fun enough bar to have a few beers at while watching the NBA playoff games(few bars around Brisbane even stream NBA games).

If you enjoy a good pub feed and leaving with some money left in your wallet, maybe skip this place. The recent refurbishments are great and the venue itself is enticing and chic, but I just can’t understand how somewhere that central with so much competition nearby feels it can get away with $ 30 – 40 dollar meals that you could get for half that at any local pub worth its salt. I ordered the bangers and mash, which, paired with a pint cost me about $ 50. The meal itself was pretty average and didn’t even have any vegetables. Just sausages mash and gravy. Daylight robbery. The dishes my companions ordered were also quite plain and bland, especially considering how much they cost. Maybe a good place to pop in for a drink but with so many other independent venues nearby with better quality food and lower prices, I don’t think I’d be coming back here anytime soon.

Great venue layout with plenty of room inside and out. The beer garden has a retractable roof that they close when the weather isn’t tip top. I love the giant mirrors in the beer garden, they give the space a more refined feel. All in all a pretty good looking spot to have a drink… On the downside drinks are fairly expensive, there isn’t much choice if you’re looking for a single glass of wine and they are priced around $ 9.50. The beer menu didn’t look anything special either. I wouldn’t dabble in the food here, even though the venue feels quite schmick the feedback from my friends was that the food looked better than it tasted.

I was in the Valley recently for BigSound so had to spend a fair bit of time at Pig ‘n’ Whistle for functions and meetings between the day time panels. Any time I went into a catered event the venue seemed really awesome with great vibe and super friendly staff however trying to get lunch here was a totally different matter. I dropped in to get a quick snack and was told by the bar tender it would be an hour and a half wait on my meal– What The? Walked out and headed over the road, definitely not cool

Too pricy and not open for the big Spanish football games. Beer selection is average and the food is… Not food? Sadly Brisbane does not have many sports bars for those that watch football or other international sports. So you have to suffer through this place on occasion.

Have eaten at King George Square Pig ‘N’ Whistle and meals were great. This doesn’t even compare — the meals were terrible. The 1 star is for the Guinness, we will not be going back.

It was a cool Sunday afternoon on the school holidays when myself, my fiancé and my two step kids wandered into Pig’n’whistle to meet up with friends. We had spent the morning defending the Galaxy in Laserforce(big group of adult-children right here!) and had whipped up quite an appetite. The venue was light and pleasing. Warm wood tones worked well with the nude coloured pressed metal ceiling and low decorative pendant lighting. We settled at a table toward the back of the venue and made good use of the leather booth seating along one side. The timber stools were moulded to seat comfortably however they lacked backs, which meant they weren’t ideal for long periods. We ordered food and drinks and enjoyed the airy ambience for around twenty minutes when the meals arrived. Everything came together(big tick from the parents at the table), and it was all hot, fresh and nicely presented. Representing the two ‘glutards’ at the table, I will say the Duck and Chr Sui pork salad was fresh and fragrant. Too much cilantro on mine, but I’m one of those weirdos who doesn’t care for its soapiness. I was pleased to see the shanks and rib eye were both gf options, meaning we could feasibly return and I wouldn’t be forced to eat the exact same dish. The fiancé’s steak sandwich was tasty from all reports and the bar staff offered him a taste tester in order to choose his beer from the ample selection. I will say that this venue is definitely not kid friendly when it comes to the menu options. Our Master Eight Years Old chose salt and pepper calamari with a bowl of chips and was disappointed to find the calamari so hot he couldn’t eat it. His Dad and our other diners struggled with the level of spice and we lamented that the staff didn’t mention it on the menu. Mistress Twelve was happy with her pulled pork roll, and the other diners in the party were satisfied. With plenty of staff manning the place it was easy to order drinks and plates were cleared with efficiency. The beer garden looks lovely(think large ornate silver mirrors and dainty fairy lights juxtaposed with greenery and brick). We aim to come back and try it out one day sans kids.

Nope nope nope. Sure, they play EPL, but the music is crazy loud and terrible. Management are patronising, BUT the security guys are civilised. Nothing else to report, because I’ve not paid the elaborate prices for food. The other star is for décor. Shame about the service.

This is a bright vibrant modern bar… And a lie. The pig n whistle name means one thing and that’s a cliché English pub. There’s no booth in a danke dark corner or old man perched on a stool who’s complextion somehow matches the tiles behind the bar. It is a great little/big bar but please change the name. They didnt have paywave which I very annoying. Like most I don’t carry cash and barely remember my pin #… In summary it’s definently worth a visit but not for what the name implies

«Eat somewhere else» do not support this horrible bar. Tuesday night 21st of October. We waited 45 minutes for food on a quiet night. One of the orders came out wrong and we were told it would take another 45 minutes. The order was steak, blue. 45 minutes later the waiter came out and recommended«we eat somewhere else». We talked to the manager and she started going on about how it take 30 minutes for steak to rest and it would take oh so long. It was apparent the kitchen had no intention of EVER cooking us our meal and the manager had no real intention of fixing this, no matter how much we waited. Don’t support this kind of distain for customers(you). I say take his advice — «Eat somewhere else.» In fact just never bother with it at all.

The Pig ‘n’ Whistle has gone a bit fancy! The décor, the food & even the punters themselves seemed to have turned up the notch from a regular Brisbane institution we all know… and I like it! The newest edition to the chain echos sentiments of the heritage building’s previous tenant — the much loved(and my personal fave) — Ortiga. Both the main bar and the lower fine dining restaurant posses elements of the fitout including my favourite hanging light orbs(albeit a bit brighter inside) with teles so you can keep up on the footy scores still. They have rearranged the space however to maximize floor space with a new bar and plenty of dry bars & stools to entertain a quiet beverage. They have also installed an atm which makes paying for your beverages oh so easy too… The real highlight of the refurbishment has been the extension into a previously vacant courtyard, to make a stunning street level open beer garden with a retractable roof. This area will be amazing in a smoldering Brisvegas summer, the bar also extends out street side with a scattering of picnic tables on the side walk as well as another beer garden on restaurant level onto Robertson street, with a friendly talking level of popular music playing in the background — can somebody say ‘Friday Drinks & Sunday seshes’ ! Now to the important bit, the Food. I must start with the fact that, my expectations were well low & I held my hopes at pub grub, but what greeted me was far from that. It was definitely more gastropub to even dare I say fine dining, another nod to Ortiga! I ordered the Lamb loin rolled in prosciutto with amazing roast vege. I never thought I would ever say this, but those brussell sprouts were to.die.for! I will be returning to sample more on the dining card & word on the street, there’s even breaky served on a weekend too! As for drinks, this place is definitely a great local, with a nice range of 18 international beers on tap & a great range of vinos to match. All in all a pleasant experience enjoyed, and any preconceptions that I may have had, have been blown out if the water, and I’ll definitely be back. That’ll do Pig, that’ll do.
