The Mill on Constance

It took 2 tries to go here. The first time I showed up outside on a Saturday. it looked so quiet that I decided against going in… my mistake! I ended up going the next Friday night and had a wonderful time. Although unassuming from the outside, the old flour mill turned bar looks great and is the perfect hangout. The bar is spacious, has big tables and nice lighting (yes, this matters!).
The food was just ok. I had the chicken burger and fries… The flavors were nice but the chicken itself was a bit strange. dark and stringy… not what I had in mind for a fried chicken burger.
They have decent prices and a pretty good selection of beers. I wouldn’t come back for dinner but I would drop by again for a few drinks while catching up with friends!

The Mill on Constance is one of the few venues left in the Valley you can go to that isn’t completely overrun with douche-​bags. The crowd it draws are mostly upbeat, but respectful to their surroundings. The cocktails are absolutely delightful, but most of all well priced and prepared by a myriad of really, ridiculously good looking staff. And if there’s one thing I’m about, it’s sexy people preparing my beverages. The team are opening a new bar in Bulimba soon too, taking Brisbane by storm one bar at a time.

Found a new favorite bar in brissie. Finally a place where the lights are dim and the beer is a journey every time go. Lots of craft brews and they often run out of a certain batch but that’s fine because it’s a reason to try something new! Because they will surprise you with the replacement keg.
This is a real bar with good character.

What a gem of a place! We came here relatively early on a Saturday evening, and found it to be a fantastic place to hang out for a bit and catch up with friends. It doesn’t look like all that much from outside, with just a small sign and doorway to greet you, but inside has been very nicely refurbished with a very warm and inviting space. Good comfortable lighting that’s bright enough to see what you’re eating and who you’re talking to, but not so bright that it’s uncomfortable.
The drinks selection is pretty good, featuring a good variety of craft beers (some on tap) and some rather delicious cocktails. Prices all quite reasonable. Food selection is decent for a bar too, with a page of simple but delicious sounding food for a very very reasonable $ 10 each (other than the chips and aioli which is cheaper).
The staff were very friendly, and on the night we were entertained by a lovely lady and her guitar. Good music, neither too loud nor too soft.
We will definitely be back.

What a refreshing experience it is to go to a bar, that although in an on-​trend converted space (it was an old barracks and flour mill), serves an impressive menu of beer, wine and spirits only. No fancy cocktails, no mixology shenanigans behind the bar — just beer, wine and spirits. Sometimes you just crave the simplicity.
There’s no food menu yet, but they will give your table a bowl of pretzels and there’s plans in the works to open a kitchen and offer a food menu in the near future. When I visited, it was a Thursday night and at around 6pm there was quite the crowd which gave the space a comfortable atmosphere. While it may have been busy, I truly appreciated that I could still hear the conversations I was having with our group. There was no «Sorry, what did you say?» or saying «Yes» and hoping it was the right answer.
Prices seemed to be reasonable too. $ 9 for a West Winds Gin & Tonic is okay by me given I’ve paid up to $ 12-​$ 15 before.
By the time our party left about 3 hours later we were the only ones in the bar but not once were we made feel like we needed to hurry and leave. The space is still new and I’m sure with time they’re going to grow into it. It’d be great to see live music or comedy acts take up a regular gig in this bar.

Oh, dropped in here with a very good mate of mine after work and we had a great time.
Good happy hour special, great atmos and the fit-​out is awesome! Good crowd too and the bar staff were really friendly with amazing accents.
Best of all they serve my new favourite Australian West Winds gin — just in time for Australia Day! Woot woot!

Well gosh. When did this turn up?
Admittedly I don’t go out very often these days, so it’s no surprise I didn’t know about it.
This is a great little bar on Constance (of course), with a lovely ambience. There’s great lighting, a dinosaur, and the space looks like it’s had a minimum of work done to on it since it was a mill, and it looks sensational.
Drinks seemed reasonably priced, and the menu has enough on it without being overwhelming.
I’m taking a star away. The stools are possibly the second most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever sat on, second only to a Delta flight.

This is a no-​nonsence bar with a simple beverage list of Australian Only wine, beer and spirits.
When we arrived there was a healthy crowd for a Thursday afternoon. There is comfy seating as well as the trendy tolix stools which seems to have hit saturation point with most venues these days (think I’m ready for a change — although they are a classic). This bar has a lovely feel and has a similar personality to a stand-​up comedy joint. Although there was no entertainment while we were there, I believe they do support live music acts on the weekend?
I wish I could remember the beer I was drinking, the barman recommended it based on my original choice of Stone & Wood’s Pacific Ale. My beer was cold and refreshing with a crisp clean taste and was reasonably priced comparitively with other craft beer niche venues.
I wish The Mill and my path were likely to cross again but it’s unlikely due to it’s location, too far from work and home but I do recommend it to those for whom it is convenient.

It’s a story fit to be told in a pub. Two Irishmen convert an old flour mill into their dream bar. The rest is history. In fact, The Mill is history in a bar. What use to be an old air force barracks and old flour mill, now provides an Australian drinks list with locally sourced craft beer, spirits, and wine, mostly exclusive to the bar. What’s more, is that the beers on tap, and wines by the glass, were $ 5, and cocktails $ 14, as well as Pimms by the jugs for $ 25. Not too shabby at those prices!
I was here when the bar was only a week old, and there was a palpable «buzz» in the air. People are always excited at new bar openings, especially because it’s another addition to Constance Street’s already bustling scene, with Limes, Alfred & Constance just a hop and skip away on the other end.
Inside, the restoration to the place is quite impressive. Polished floorboards, painted brick walls, as well as some quirky designs, like the light fitting that hangs over the staircase, and the T-​Rex/​Velociraptor sculpture that greets you as you enter. There’s some detail that has been left, and pays homage to the past, an old grain turner suspended from the ceiling.
Weekends will see some live music, and a kitchen is set to open offering a casual menu, perfect for nibbling on whilst downing a Mountain Goat Summer Ale.

Great little pub that serves up craft beer only and various cocktails. It is a small venue, but had plenty of seating for a Friday Happy Hour. If word gets out about this place it might be hard to get a seat. I love the fact that the owners were able to take this old mill and change it into great little venue.
The one bad thing about this place was that there is no food served. If you are drinking you need at least something to nibble on and I would love to see this place add something to menu for that.

Cheap good drinks, super friendly staff, no food (that will change soon apparently — they are just getting started after all)! Recommended for drinks with friends, especially on a Friday like today!

Lovely new bar on Constance St, with a great selection of craft beers to choose from. Tried the Fruity Wench punch which was delicious. Staff are friendly and attentive.
The set up has heaps of tables to gather around with some couches as well if you looking to settle in with some mates for a chat.
Be sure to watch out for the T-​Rex that watches over you as you enter!
