Friendly, attentive service in a beautiful bar lounge. Wednesday’s $ 20 all you can eat sushi

We found a bug in the plate and the owner didn’t want to give us our money back. Disgusting. Also the place is kitsch and vulgar so if you are looking for a fine dinner DON’T go to Zuri!

Went with a groupon. Good deal for 2, offering an 8 course meal. Made a reservation for Friday at 7:30pm and showed up an hour early to find out they had half priced happy hour specials for $ 5 mixed drinks. Not bad. The atmosphere was an eclectic mix of a badly designed vampire hang out with old 80s music in the background. A live band was setting up whilst we went to our table. Our server was super friendly. She started our night with a shot of sake. Nice! We got edimame and dumplings which were good and the sushi roll was ok. But all the other dishes and even the miso soup was ultra salty. We left the place bloated from our salt overdose. I give it 3 stars cuz it’s not a bad place. Atmosphere is interesting. They have live music. Happy hour drinks are«cheap-ish» and the servers are friendly. It really deserves 2.5 stars. Everything was hit and miss.

As a bar goes, it has it all. Funky music, amazing décor, busy weekends and smack in the middle of the Valley. Bongos, saxophones and a dj… says it all.

Went with a Groupon, might have been the first mistake as we were put into a Groupon section– weird. Ambiance is kind of loungey, clearly this place turns into a club by night(that should have been a red flag). Generally sushi and clubing is not a sought after combination. Now, I come from a family with high fish standards so, unfortunately, expectations are high, but I can say that the tuna sashimi that I was served was the most rancid thing I have ever put in my mouth. I thought I was going to be sick for days. After that experience, I will never come back here, not even for drinks.

For the young student out there, there is really only one reason you go to Zuri. It starts with an «All» and ends with, «You Can Eat Sushi Wednesday.» For just $ 15 you and your friends can munch on as many sushi platters that you can. Provided you go on a Wednesday and dress up kind of nice to get in. Zuri on other nights for anyone wishing to, «Throw their hair back and forth,» really needs to be seeking a different bar. Traditionally this place is reserved for the older versions of yourselves who can afford nice cocktails and doesn’t use a Willow Smith references in their review. But all things aside, Zuri is a really nice bar with some serious style points for décor. If your trying to escape the wilder side of the Valley and looking for somewhere more quiet to impress someone then this could be what your looking for.

The trick with Zuri Lounge is to go with a large group of girl friends in short dresses. The security guards — who are pretty friendly once you crack their surly exterior — will let you in for free. Once in you’ll find a confusing assortment of tacky and classy decorations, along with two bars, and the most extravagant bathrooms you’ll find in the valley. I couldn’t imagine anyone throwing up in them, and if they did, I would assume it would smell of cheap perfume. My friends and I stopped by here and ordered a round of ‘Wet Pussies’(don’t even ask), which was a fusion of several spirits mixed with grapefruit juice that were surprisingly good. After that we took a seat in one of the booths(which had been booked out for one of the girls’ birthdays) and settled into the hard, velvet seats. Zuri isn’t a bar at which I’d usually stop by for a quick or casual drink — most of the patrons are dressed to the nines, and there is a strict dress code, but it’s a nice pit stop for a birthday toast or barf.

Zuri is prime pickings for anyone who likes to add a little decadence to their night out in the Valley. Its lofty doors open you up into a space illuminated by lamps that set the perfect mood: a little bit fabulous, a little bit sensuous, and a little bit prohibition London-esque. Zuri can actually be a really nice and relaxing break from all the hard-beat music and stumbling crowds on a night out in the Valley and it adds a little class. You can dress up nicely here and not feel out of place, but you can also drop by for a cocktail or a beer and not feel alienated either. Yes, it’s a little more highbrow, but no, it’s not discriminatory. Throw yourself down on one of the luxurious and very squishy lounge chairs, order a cocktail, and enjoy some classy fun at Zuri. Zuri’s rooms can also be hired out for functions and they have all-you-can-eat Sushi Wednesday! A taxi rank is also conveniently located out the front but it gets exceedingly busy from about midnight onwards on the weekend.

Zuri is one of the classier bars in Fortitude Valley. You won’t hear any thumping bass lines hear and no-one will be amused by drunken shenanigans but if you are looking somewhere a little fancy it’s definitely the place to go. The entire venue is opulently decorated in a French Baroque style with elegant lounges, chandeliers and wall to wall carpeting. The bartenders mix up swish cocktails and even the lounge menu is superior to standard bar food. Open early, it’s a perfect place to start the night with some subdued drinks and conversations, perhaps before getting loose at one of the far less classy bars in the precinct.
