Another trip to Gawler saw this being offered up as a potential morning tea venue. When I voiced my opinions based on my previous experience, I was told there had been new owners come in and the service was much improved. Happily this turned out to be true. Friendly service, lovely cake options and a good pot of tea to share was a good incentive to come back to Unilocal and update my review accordingly. The lunch menu looked enticing too. Good to know!

Though the poor review on here put us off, we saw signs saying ‘under new management’ so I figured it was worth trying since it had lots of gluten free options — basically a whole menu’s worth of options! Plus many more options for the non-glutards. I had to opt for the meat pie with chips and gravy. Don’t know how long it’s been since I had a pie! Home made in store, it was full of juicy mince with a crisp tasty pie crust. It’s impossible to make gf pie crust taste the same as the gluteny variety, but this is a great approximation and it hit my pie spot and filled me happily. The staff were a father and son team who were hugely welcoming and friendly, making it a lovely place to be. I found out they have been the owners for 2 months now, and while the owner was unsure whether to continue the gf menu, he’s had a positive response from people excited to have gf yummies. I do hope he keeps it up! It was a great surprise to find a very gf-friendly café in a small place like Gawler. Also must be mentioned — great coffee and excellent prices! Lunch for $ 7-$ 13? I’m good with that. But really, great coffee. Not too strong but with a lovely nutty flavour. Goes perfectly with a homemade gf muffin for just $ 5.90. Big thumbs up from a happy glutard.
