Whoa, Fresh Ocean Seafood! Way to surprise a sista! After a few mixed experiences at Sydney Fish Market(one time: awesome oysters, another: way overpriced snapper«fillets» which we ended up having to bone ourselves, grrr) we decided to try FOS to see what fresh fish they had on offer. And what do you know? They have super fresh fish fillets for sale at ridiculously cheap prices! Interesting fun fact– the fish in the case that faces the street is priced almost three times as much as the fish in the case inside the actual joint. They sell barramundi and smooth dory for around $ 8 a kg. Yes, you read right! The cheapest price I’ve paid in Sydney, bar none. Just make sure you go inside to buy it. Strange, I know, but the fish is crazy fresh and delicious, so dont ask questions! BF and I left with a kg of the best barramundi for cheap, cheap, cheap. They also do fish and chips for $ 9– I’ve seen them preparing it, and it’s batter-dipped to order, but it looks a bit batter-heavy for my taste. But do go there for the awesomely fresh and cheap fish! In your face Fish Market!

I don’t know why, but these days I’ve taken it upon myself to cook more fish at home. Luckily for me, Fresh Ocean Seafood is a hop, skip, and a jump from my apartment. They have a decent variety of seafood at very reasonable prices. When I planned on making fettuccini with lemon shrimp, I bought the shrimp from here. When you visit, make sure to ask if the shrimp is fresh, because though most of the time it only available frozen, you might get lucky. My personal opinion is that fresh always tastes better. This small fish market also carries different kind of shellfish, from lobsters and crabs to scallops and mussels. You can also find several types of fish, though the variety may change day-to-day. The staff is also helpful at suggesting which fish would go better with the ingredients you have on hand. Even though I have yet to try them, this place also sells«Glebe’s Best» fish and chips for around $ 9. I’ll let you know how they are when I get my next fish and chips craving.
