I love thrift shopping. Money saving. Good for the environment. And in Australia most importantly, good for your finances. Everything is so expensive here and to find a decent thrift shop was a challenge I won’t lie. This particular location has a large selection of clothing, jewelry, books, and accerssories. I didn’t find as much as I did at vinnie’s in Australia but still a good place if you are in the area and have time to browse.

If you’re after some cheap house-share furniture or just a few extra knick-knacks for your house, check out the big Salvos store on the corner of Broadway and Glebe Point Road. You’ll find racks full of clothes plus brick-a-brack and homewares like vases, china plates and glassware. There are also a few boxes of records hidden up the back — I’ve found some awesome treasures here, so it’s worth taking a peek and trying your luck! If you don’t find what you’re after, there’s a Vinnies further down Glebe Point Road or a Kmart and Target in Broadway Shopping Centre just a two-minute walk down the road. Buses also run to and from the city along Broadway.

I’m a big fan of second hand clothing, not because I’m deranged and love the idea that someone else’s body has been in the clothes I wear. That’s sick, how dare you accuse me of that. But because you can often find clothes that are far cooler, far trendier and much cheaper than in your local outlet. Plus another body has been inside them. Awesome! The Salvo shop on the corner of Glebe Point Road and Broadway is huge, all kinds of clothes from casual to fancy and in between. They even sell Schmancy clothes. The volunteers there are very friendly and one even talks like a 1920’s starlet. They have fantastic deals on a regular basis, if the shirt you’re after has a red tag and it’s red tag month, then you get 50% off that item, but if you decide to wait until Red Tag month, which could be, who knows how far away, you run the risk of the item being sold before hand. It still hurts to think of that suede vest that was just out of my price range. The shop sells furniture, toys, books, clothes, shoes and accessories and there’s always more stock coming in. As it is a charity, spending money in these stores is also good for the soul. I think.
