This is my go-to restaurant to impress visitors with Australian cuisine. So far, everyone I’ve dined with has left satisfied and pretty impressed with the local fare. When I first ate at Two Peas I was mesmerized by the map on the wall of where all their produce comes from. Now that I’ve eaten here over a couple of seasons I have seen the number and location of farms, fisheries, and orchards grow and move. That connection to the land is a key tenant of the restaurant and shows up in the taste of the food. Last night I had to opportunity to take my parents-in-law here. We ordered every appetizer on the menu: asparagus and poached egg, vegetable soup, tuna carpaccio and duck pâté. Everything was fantastic but the pâté was the biggest hit, very smokey. I will say, one tiny issue I have with this restaurant is that the portions of the appetizers vary greatly and the price doesn’t always reflect this completely. Just my issue probably. For the mains we had the spaghetti and yabbie tales(super fresh pasta), the beetroot risotto(so gorgeous on the plate garnished with goat cheese and arugula, just like Christmas) and the snapper with white bean purée. Again, all hits but the pasta went the quickest. Our dessert was a ginger crème brule and a salted caramel panna cotta. Yum. The menu changes every week so I never tire of coming here. Do make sure to make a reservation since its a small dining room that can fill up on a Friday night.

The waiters at Two Peas are quick to remind you that Two Peas is run by «proper chefs» /«career chefs» … who really care about good, ethically farmed produce and doing inventive things with it. And the proof of this was indeed on the plate. The menu changes regularly, depending on the produce available, and it was hard to pick a winner on the menu, because all the dishes looked very, very tempting. So the food was very good, no question, but the café was oddly rather empty, on the saturday we visited. This is no hipster haven — it has more of a refined, middle-aged sort of feel. We spied an older couple enjoying champagne with their breakfast. It’s that kind of place. Sometimes finding an empty place with excellent food is just the ticket. We had a big group, and the café had plenty of space, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves.
