I’ve been attending Genesis for about 3 months now. I’ve been a member of many gyms in the past, including Fitness First, and I think Genesis is very good. There’s plenty of good, modern equipment. I mix between weights and cardio and I’ve never found I had to wait long for any equipment to become available. The changerooms are spacious with plenty of secure, PIN-activated lockers. I haven’t used the classrooms yet(am planning to join some RPM classes in winter) but they look well equipped. The trainers and staff are very friendly, welcoming and attentive. Its a popular gym and busy at 6am during weekdays. The range of Genesis Glenelg’s customers is broad, ranging from young to old. I see plenty of 50+ people attending, which is good to see. I also think that if anyone felt they were overweight and felt out of place they shouldn’t. This isn’t a gym for posers(although there are some very fit people who attend). There are quite a few larger people who attend, and good on them for taking the first steps to improve their health! There’s plenty of parking in the top deck next to the gym, which is more than I can say for many gyms I’ve been to. Because the gym is located solely on the top deck of a relatively new shopping centre the gym is spacious and isn’t split across multiple floors(I’m looking at you Fitness First Adelaide!) Genesis don’t have any aquatic facilities but they do have steam rooms. If I had only one minor nit is that I wish they had a stretching cage and a bit more space dedicated to stretch out.

Genesis is a newcomer to Glenelg, having been open for about two years. It is interestingly perched on top of a shopping centre, at the back of a car park. They are very slick and persistent when it comes to marketing so don’t ever give them your details if you don’t want to be continually harassed until you give in and join up. No, seriously the gym is not a bad gym. I have done some trial work outs here and my daughter is a member and loves going there. The good thing about the gym is that it is brand new and purpose built. The studios where they hold their classes are beautiful and state of the art. The change rooms are modern and well thought out with great lockers that you just have to put in a combination number to use. The weights and cardio areas have all you could possibly need and are very large. The only thing that stops me from swapping gyms is that I spend a lot of time in the cardio area and here it is so dark it is like a nightclub. As you may know, from reading the review of the gym I attend, I do like to read while peddling my stationary bike, which is hard to do when it is «nightclub» dark. So all in all this is a good modern gym suited to the more serious gym goers and if you want to give it a try they often have special offers where you can get a 10 day free trial.
