Had a beautiful milk hot chocolate today. Gorgeous on a stunning autumn day on the verandah! Wish I’d had the waffles too, they looked fabulous!!!

What can I say, Chocolate @ No. 5 is one of my favourite dessert café’s in Adelaide. Waffles to die for, velvety hot chocolate’s and very friendly staff. Amazing premium chocolate! The interior is delightfully cosy, regardless of the weather outside. A trip to Hahndorf wouldn’t be complete without a visit!

Chocolate No. 5 is a beautiful, family run chocolatiers in the Adelaide Hills. I was served by the chocolatier mum, who makes all the chocolate by hand. While she weighed and served the choccies, her daughter was busy waitressing. She makes a mean coffee and the hot chocolate is even better. And while the females of the family were out the front, dad was in the kitchen washing the dishes helping mould chocolates. The chocolatier has amazing artistry. I bought a series of creature-themed chocolate she created for my bloke, including a triple-chocolate frog, made from milk and dark chocolate, with a white chocolate drizzle. It’s a chocoholic’s dream. He loved it. There was also a dark chocolate hedgehog the chocolatier filled with French caramel, which also proved a hit. I’m a huge fan of single-origin dark chocolate and Chocolate No.5 has dark chocolate buttons from Tanzania in Africa made from 75 per cent cocoa. It is really good quality produce. I also bought some dark chocolate truffles which were wonderfully produced but too sweet for me. My bloke loved it though.

Not the first time that I have raved online(or offline) about this place, and I doubt it will be my last. Located in picturesque hillside surroundings, where the German village of Hahndorf resides, this chocolate refuge is the place to be. The hype is apparent as I had been recommended to taste this store’s fine chocolate delicacies many times before, and from varying individuals. All of who had recently returned straight home from this pretty cottage-like chocolate store. I love the effort that has gone into every single part of this cosy chocolate retreat. The small details, such as the No.5 logo carefully sprinkled with cocoa powder on their delicious hot chocolate, it is just divine and their efforts do not go unnoticed. It is nice to see the owner’s passion and vision magically translated in a way for visitors to enjoy.

It took me awhile to spot this place. It’s not easy to drive down the main street in Hahndorf and look at the shops when you’re searching for a specific place, even if you do know the number. It’s a very narrow road, made more narrow by the fact that cars are parked along it pretty much the whole way on both sides. So once I finally worked out where this place was, I was really very desperate for a milkshake and a break. OMFG. What a great place! The menu, while not huge, is packed full of extremely appetizing foods and drinks. The chocolate milkshake I had might well be the best I ever experience. It’s hard to describe how good it is. I did get a couple of the handmade chocolates to try, and like the milkshake, they were delicious. Service here is excellent. Really friendly. The shop itself is a converted house, and it’s beautiful. It really is. It’s surprisingly large. If you look at it from the street, you’ll have no idea how many people can fit into this palace of chocolatey pleasure. I’m another who would give this place ten stars. Or more.

Why can’t I give ten stars?!? I stopped here the other day after reading some good reviews. My first thought were I didn’t realise there were so many chocolate shops in Hahndorf(I counted four?). Chocolate @ No 5 is located right down the end of all the shops on Main Rd, so it’s nice and easy to find. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the friendly owner, who offered us menus, and gave us time to look them over. There is lots to choose from. We ended up going with a Belgium milk hot chocolate, a chocolate milkshake, and a Belgian waffle(complete with ice cream, strawberries and melted Belgium chocolate) to share. First came the drinks. Both were sensational. The hot chocolate was rich and smooth, and the milkshake I would’ve drunk litres of. The Belgium waffle came out, very nicely presented on the plate. It tasted beautiful. Lovely. I’d give this place more than five stars if I could, and I will definitely be back.
