Oh my … so much goodness. Orawgi is(mostly) what I’ve been waiting for someone to do in the café scene in Brisbane. Raw, vegan, superfood deliciousness PLUS green /fresh pressed juices. Orawgi stands for«Organic, Raw, Low-GI». YESYES so much YES. I’m not a vegan, nor even a vegetarian, but I appreciate good food. I especially appreciate it when it’s CHUCKFULL nutritional value AND flavour that punches you in the face, which is what is on offer at Orawgi. What I have found with raw vegan food is that is truly happy food. It lifts your mood, nourishing your soul & body. I planned a visit to this café with a friend who was totally unfamiliar with Raw, Vegan food but game to try it. It’s not in a convenient location for either of us & there is no parking on site, but we were not to be deterred. I was doing a silent fist punch when we walked in and I saw cabinets with actual lunch-type food stuffs on offer. There were just 2 staff visible in the small space, but they were friendly & attentive. The lunch still available at our 130pm arrival was wheat free, dairy free, gluten free vegan pizzas in the flavour of Mexican or Supreme. I opted for Mexican & my friend for Supreme. They had earlier had a vegan pad thai with fresh zucchini noodles and a satay sauce, but it had sold out. We both ordered the lunch combo($ 22.50) which includes a salad(we both chose the kale salad with tamari dressing) and either a sweet or a juice. It would’ve been the worst kind of sin to pass up the raw vegan Snickers cheesecake(OMG — go there and just eat it). My friend opted for the green juice of the day. I can not fault this lunch at all. The kale salad had mushrooms(eeewwwwww… I don’t do those) and the staff actually took the time to make sure my serve didn’t include any. This meal was just what I needed. The salad was crispy & fresh and the pizza a delight. And that raw vegan Snickers cheesecake was AMAZING. We ordered at the counter, but it was served to the table. There was a self-serve alkaline water station available, which was just topped off the healthiness of it all. Also, if you don’t know what Raw Food is all about, at least be aware that none of the food is heated beyond 48 degrees to ensure it retains all its nutrients. My friend was not aware of this and was surprised to find the pizza served cold. Now, yes, this meal & our experience is absolutely deserving of all five stars. But, you should probably be aware that the«café» is more like an office lunchroom that has been been opened to the public. It’s a little weird. It is not uncomfortable, just unusual. The staff working around you don’t seem to mind & are totally cool with it, so just settle in & do your body a favour by filling it with tasty vegan creations. I’ll be going back, for sure.

Tasty, tasty raw food, even tastier than unhealthy food! Tell the girls at the counter your troubles and they’ll prescribe you a shake to fix you right up. Don’t let the blueberry bagel pass you buy, you’ll be so sad that you did. I have been thinking about their blueberry bagels every day since I had one. Do you think they’ll post to Perth?

You could walk through the doors of Orawgi and instantly feel healthier. It’s true. But for a more rounded approach, at least try their smoothies, freshly made juices and definitely do not pass go without stuffing your face with their take on a blueberry bagel(it’s raw food but blimey, I could eat 10 a day). We stopped in to Orawgi in the midst of a treck around Brisbane preparing for the Unilocaler Party and all three of us declared we needed«something like a green juice. Super healthy.» Instantly, I knew this was a chance to finally visit Orawgi. Originally a café for the adjoining office workers, the team have opened it to the public as word grew of this little café’s great fare. My juice(kale, apple, carrot, cucumber and ginger) was just the injection of vitamins and goodness I needed. Plus the girls get bonus points for being able to balance the right amount of ginger to the rest of the juice ingredients. Can’t wait to go back!
