I’ve found a few interesting things in here. The first time I came in, I was getting ready to go to a costume party. Ended up finding a little old(and evidently, sufficiently rotund) lady’s lawn bowls outfit, hat and all. Well, didn’t I look a treat in that? It’s inexpensive, you know whatever you spend is going to help a good cause, and there’s plenty of stuff that you would not expect at all.

A couple of years ago, my friends hosted an op-shop themed party at a shack we were staying at. So we spent a few hours driving up and down North East Road looking in all the op-shops(there is heaps) to get costumes and accessories cheap. I got an all in 1 white overall thing which I made into a ghostbuster suit with a vacuum on my back. We all spent ages in all the shops looking at the treasures and trying things on and taking photos and laughing. The staff are ok, nothing special, but you can usually bargain them down in price too(even though its so cheap).

This place has a lot of bits and pieces. They have a lot of things, but not really much of anything if that makes sense. I’ve brought shoes here, a few items of clothes, and a few kitchen gadgets. Staff are okay, not overley friendly or anything, but I don’t mind that.

This place is a weird wonderland of new imported Asian finery and second-hand gear. This is the location of my best ever op shop find in history: silver boots with wooden heels: twenty bucks, brand new space boots from another land, never seen in Adelaide before or after. Those shoes became too worn for me to wear again last month, and I will spent the rest of my God given days searching for another pair. I also found here a yellow jumper with Humphrey B Bear on it: it had all the creepiness and charm of the Television show. Sadly the jumper has gone missing; perhaps Humphrey reclaimed it without my knowing. Do not discount this as just another op shop, oh no. If you have a good eye, and luck on your side, you too may stumble upon magic boots, or similar.

There are a number of Op shops on North East road, and The Red Cross Super Store is one of them. Usually I would try to point out some reason why I go there over other local options, but there really isn’t any. It is just an OK store. Occasionally they stock some extra furniture that you wouldn’t find elsewhere, but the last time I visited the range was mighty thin. I also didn’t find anything new to add to my extensive spy costume collection. Such a shame, I was looking for something that would pass me off for a North Eastern Mongolian Yak Herdsman… I guess the search will have to continue.
