Behind the Monkey, is an amazing shop. By most of my gifts there as does my girlfriend, I love the quirky and delicate peices they choose. The staff are so knowledgeable on what each piece symbolises. Would spend all my pay there if that didn’t determine a shopping addiction haha.

On a frantic trip to find some last minute presents for a birthday, I was lucky enough to find this delightful shop. You could spend hours here if you are not careful.
Filled with shiny trinkets, fashionable accessories and fabulous gifts, Behind The Monkey is my new go-​to store. Everyone is sure to find at least one thing they love here. The staff is also more than happy to help you with your needs.
I left with a bag full of goodies and needless to say, all the gifts were a hit. You don’t have to look far if you’re looking for something special of someone or for yourself.

Love this place… was looking for a birthday present but didn’t want a standard, everyday gift… The choice on offer of jewellery and design pieces is wonderful and it took a lot of will power to stay focused on the task of birthday gift rather than buying a million things for myself. The service and knowledge provided cant be faulted. A great place to find something that you wouldn’t find every day.

This store is one of those little wonderlands that I love the escape in. The sell some creatively brilliant gift ideas and home-​wears that my mother would die for!
I love places like this and in particular the jewellery, I died and went to heaven when I found the home made jewellery, with every pieces being slightly different, maybe one is a bit less shiny than another, or maybe one has been straightened up a bit better. They are all quirky and really usual. Some of the ranges sell there goods for a pretty high prices, but amidst all that there are some real bargains too, I bought this punk style necklace for $ 15!

Just as their opening times are strange and usual (9.56am? Right-​o!), so too are this shop’s wares. I’m more of an accessories girl than a shoe or hand-​bag fanatic, and I’d always walked past this store on my late night ventures throughout Mount Lawley. I’m so glad I finally crossed the threshold and into this store after spending too much time with my face pressed up against the glass, because it’s now by far my favourite jewellery store.
Located within the trendy outer city suburb of Mount Lawley, Behind the Monkey is well known for its focus on providing a range of hand-​crafted, organic designs. Their jewellery is more for those who appreciate rough and raw one-​offs, so expect lots of unpolished crystal pendants, intricate metal necklaces more akin to body armour than jewellery, and rings so big they’d double as deadly weapons. Lots of gothic symbolism, tribal aesthetic, and modern forms scattered throughout. If you like things which resemble occult imagery, you’ll love this store.
The place is kind of set up like a museum, with its stark white walls and visual merchandising that guides visitors all around the corners of the store. Save your time and avoid the back room — it’s full of kitschy home wares you can find in any trendy area. You’ll more than likely just spend a good half hour oogling the pieces by Deadly Ponies, Mania Mania, Maripossa and A&M. Which is time well spent, believe me. If you’re anything like me though, you’ll have a hard time deciding what to choose. I ended up leaving with a skull key ring (a very decent $ 3.95!), and a leather bracelet by A&M. Their stuff ranges in price though. You’ll pay around $ 200 for a ring, but I found some cute Alice in Wonderland coasters for $ 3.95. The staff are very helpful too!

More than a simple retail shop, Behind The Monkey is a creative wonderland, where you can come and get lost amongst the various objects d’art and leave feeling inspired. If the bewitching shop window displays don’t cast you through the front door, then take my word for it; you will make some truly unique discoveries.
This Highgate boutique specializes in jewellery designs that make a statement. They also store a collection of quirky giftware and fascinating decorative pieces. Some items are sourced overseas and others a lot closer to home. Every precious article has a story too. The shopkeepers are absolutely lovely and talk passionately on the sentimental value a piece of jewellery may hold.

Behind the Monkey is a quirky artistic store that is literally sparkling from its beautiful jewelry of various styles, colours, cuts, and sizes, it’s basically a sweet shop for adults. They also house stunning home wares and ornaments and some art pieces. The main store is wonderfully spaced out so you can peruse, but there is a lot to look at. There is a back room filled with kitschy items, but these are the funky ice cube trays and phone covers you find at any store you see a hipster with a bowler hat or rolled up jeans walk into. Their window is a mixture of what they are wanting to represent during that period and its display is certainly what drew me in. If you are looking for something a little special for yourself or as a gift, this is a great place to venture into.

We’ve all been in the situation before where you are in need of a gift that says cool, kitsch yet practical and useful without purchasing something overpriced and poorly made. Upon walking past the shopfront, that gift and many others came to the fore. The products are well priced and beautifully packaged. The service is excellent and the owner of the store works there and really knows her stuff. Her experience in the fashion industry really shines through and the quality is something they take seriously. From time to time they have small art shows in the back room. Conveniently located on the burgeoning Mt Lawley strip it is well worth dropping in to source a few gems for yourself or a lucky friend or family member.
