I got a Stress Buster Package as a present for Valentine’s day and managed to wait one whole day before darkening Keturah’s doorstep. The whole place smells like botanicals and money. I put on my best«yes, I go to luxurious spas all the time» face as I was escorted to the change room to get into my waffle robe. After a brief moment in the lounge, my therapist took me to the Lotus Room for my three part treatment; body scrub, hot stone massage and face pressure point massage. All of which were specially designed to stop me being such a raging stressed-out bitch to my Valentine, I suppose. The highlight was the bizarre futuristic wet and steamy capsule thingy they call a Vichy Shower. It meant I didn’t have to stand up to shower after my scrub — thank god. Standing is overrated — and I’m trying to relax here. After my scrub, my therapist put the lid of the tank down over my body and I was drizzled with water for about fifteen minutes. I felt like I was back in the womb — and I liked it. Props also to the weird sexy tantra-like music soundtrack that they piped through the room the whole time. Didn’t make things weird at all. The hot stone massage and face prodding massage thingy were nice. More of a «beauticians massage» than the body pummeling that comes from a professional masseuse. Still, very relaxing. All and all, a pretty sweet experience(and the relaxation lasted almost a whole twenty five minutes after the treatment was over). Though one with a price tag I won’t be paying any time soon.

Got the mum to be package as a gift. Glad I didn’t pay for it as it was very expensive for a very average experience. The massage was fine just a standard oil massage nothing special and I was able to lay on my stomach as being 35 weeks pregnant was a treat! Though when I had my facial they asked me to roll over so my butt was in the stomach hole. I was on my back for about 40 minutes with my butt in that hole. Understandably my lower back got very sore and as its not recommended that pregnant women lay on their back for a long period of time as the uterus squashes the aorta reducing blood flow around the body… so after about 15 minutes my arms started to get pins and needles. The facial itself would of been good if the beautician didn’t get a whole heap of product up my nose and some in my eyes. By the time the pedicure came around my back was sore and my eyes were stinging so it was difficult to enjoy. Sorry Keturah but not a great experience

I had a particularly trying morning the day I had a massage and body exfoliation booked. Walking into the salon, stress automatically lifted. The front receptionist was welcoming and friendly. The décor was neutral, classy and the lighting and aircon at perfect ‘pampered’ settings. I had my exfoliation upgraded due to a tiny error in scheduling. Not something I was expecting, considering the minute scale of the ‘inconvenience’, but it was a lovely touch. The exfoliation was a good amount of roughness/softness, with a lovely tropical scent. I can have issues with artificial scents in soaps, but no such issues with their natural products. The massage that I had been looking forward to since booking it a fortnight earlier was possibly the best relaxation massage I have ever had. Whilst I love getting massages, I do actually struggle with ‘switching off’ and just enjoying the sensation. I am not the type of person who can easily fall asleep in a massage, but I very nearly did. The only issue then? I had actually gone in for a remedial massage. I was wanting a strong, hard massage, working out my aching muscles. That was not what I got. I guess I could have said something, but I’m also not the type of person to complain. And after said trying morning, it was nice to be able to have the relaxation. So, if you want to relax and be made to feel pampered, I recommend it. I’d consider elsewhere if you do want a deep tissue massage

I had the full works here– body massage, facial and hand and feet manicured. It was very relaxing within a sublime environment. So a little bit different from my Bali massages in a run down hut. I wasn’t too impressed with my manicure, I actually think I received a better result from a chain store nail bar. I am not sure if it was because she was working with natural nails as opposed to acrylics. It was a very pleasant experience, however it felt a bit long. This is probably just the ADHD in me as I found it hard to stay still for so long. Nonetheless if this is your thing I don’t think you will be disappointed, they will definitely be mopping up a pile of drool after you have been massaged to heaven. I do remember coming home after the long ordeal and my husband commenting on how shattered I looked I then had to go and have a sleep on the couch mid afternoon, something my body demanded but my life didn’t have time for. So if you up for the ultimate wind down, i reckon you will achieve it here.

I came here after I was gifted a voucher for my birthday one year. I got a deluxe spa manicure which involved nail treatment, shaping and polish as well as arm and hand exfoliation. Whilst I was pleased with my manicured nails and the skin on my arms felt softer, I think all those frivolous extras were a but unnecessary. I would have been happy with a straightforward shape and polish from the basic Asian nail salon I know. If you have cash to splash however, Keturah is divine. It’s tranquil and opulent and all of the above. I did feel a bit special and prettily pampered going. Especially as I sat in their pre/post –treatment room surrounded by plush furnishings, Foxtel on offer, an array of high-end magazines and rich folk wrapped in plump white robes.

This was the original Keturah Day Spa, with outlets now open in Nedlands, Fremantle and Carine Glades(naturally the owners can sniff where the new money is). I first trialled this place back in 2004 and felt back then that it boasted unequalled experiences in pampering, wellbeing and relaxation. Fast forward to 2011 and it seems Keturah has lost a little of its touch. I opted for a stone massage, in which heated-then-‘cooled’ basalt stones are used in broad massage strokes across the back, allegedly to heal the soul and clear the mind, but because the stones were occasionally hotter than expected(no burn, mind, just surprisingly warmer than I’ve had before) my soul and mind were intermittently on edge. I must say, though, the Shirodhara element of this treatment, where aromatic oil is drizzled over the face, was a special touch. I don’t mean to be crude(okay then, I do) but it kind of felt like a little jizz had been dribbled over my forehead and cheeks. For what it’s worth, the stone massage was a relatively enjoyable and certainly alternative experience but it did set me back almost $ 200 for an hour-and-a-quarter session, which, given the similar sensation I might have gotten from a hooker for around the same length of time, might be a price requiring revisal.
