Went back for the first time since the renovation and loved it. Big screen in the beer garden, a great live band and my American Honey Burbon Burger with bacon and lime was brilliant. The staff were really nice and attentive, it only lost a star because of the smokers. We left early because a table full of them sat next to us.

Today I went to My Bar for a casual pub meal, staff were very friendly but the meal wasn’t so flash. I ordered a mustard and cheese bread and a pub classic, chicken parmy. The meals were very average with taste, the parmy sauce tasted like it came from a jar and the chicken schnitzel to me didn’t taste like it was made from a chicken breast. Price was average, meal servings were big but once again the flavours really let this place down.

The My bar serves food everyday between 12 and 9pm. Which is great if you are loking for a late lunch/early dinner, and a lot of places have their kitchen closed. The food is generally good, I have been here a few times, and enjoyed the eggplant schnitzel, which is great vego pub food. The veggie burger seems promising but after ordering it once I haven’t been game enought to order it again. The veggie patty wasn’t cooked through, I sent it back and it came back still not cooked through. But I just gave up as I didn’t have the energy to send it back twice. The crowd here on a Saturday night is a bit rough for my liking, but being close to my house, I will often end up here. The cocktail towers and beer towers are fun. But share them. I have seen many an 18 year old collapsed in the bathroom after finishing one by themselves. Overall It’s okay, like other have said if you’re already having a good night, you’ll keep having one at the Hilton.

MyBar you say? Well you can have it, it’s yours. If you’re 18, this is your gig probably. Drinking til you get in a fight with someone over absolutely nothing, throwing up in a pot plant and tripping over your stupidly high heels in your dress that resembles a top… it’s a meat market kids, everything 70% off. I agree with Penny, it is like The Alma, but I’m going to cross it with The Duke, that’s how special it is. All the DJ’s are good for is free drink cards, the music is pretty stock standard and none of it is mixed. So talented.

Night time review: MyBar is only as good as your night, and twice frowning is enough for me to say it has been a bad night. To be honest it sort of has a similar vibe to the Alma, but smaller and the inside couches situated by the beer garden window, are infested with cigarette smoke smearing through the bridges of the glass frame. Yuk.

I can’t believe I’ve lived in Adelaide for twenty-one years, and I’ve never realised I had a bar. MyBar’s not bad. I’m proud of it. But alas! I wish it could be a little better. I wish it could be perfect! The inside looks very nice. A lot nicer than the outside, anyways. The beer garden’s fairly good too. I haven’t yet sampled the nightlife here, I’m afraid. Only the late-afternoon life. My friends and I had been at a conference and were forced to skip lunch, so we all ordered the massive Wagyu burger(as it was favourable advertised) and love the flying fox out of it. It was massive and it was delicious, and it went down well with the beer we ordered. And that’s all I can say when it comes to MyBar. Although, I’m still a little miffed they made me pay for my food. You’d think if the bar was mine, I ought to be able to eat for free.

While it won’t win any awards for outside views — at the crossroads of industrial Hilton, this pub does house an award winning restaurant. In Fedora’s you’ll find niceties such as spanner crab meat with avocado mousse, seared bug tails and lemon vincotto, salmon with soba noodles, sautéed bok choy, miso broth and Japanese scallops, and Szechuan pepper-skinned duck breast with saffron rice. Then there’s the thumping 5-star, 300g Wagyu burger. Weighing in at twenty bucks, many deem it worthy and voted it SA’s Best Pub Burger, 2011. It sure would make a great buffer for the booze you may be about to down in MyBar. When I first visited after its total overhaul in 2007, the beer garden was decked out in sand. I can’t recall why, perhaps with the notion of bringing the beach to the burbs, but suffice to say it’s gone now. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Perhaps the person in charge of feet wiping went insane. There’s still fun to be had outside or in. Towers of it in fact. Drink towers with three litres of cocktails or beer on tap are crowd pleasers. I’m not a wowser by a long shot but when I see them I can’t help but think they encourage binge drinking. I have visions of the young-uns bent backwards with mouths wide open underneath their gushing taps. Perhaps this is indeed what they do. Perhaps that’s what the sand was for, to soak up the fall out. ;0)
