Friendly, knowledgeable sommelier, innovative food, eclectic range of beers on tap and in fridge.

This is a really great grass-roots style bar/eatery. My bud and I were in town for a few nights and looking for a mid-range kind of restaurant for dinner. The menu is short and reliably constructed with good local ingredients and a few sneaky twists. If you eat meat you’re in for a treat, but if you’re vegetarian you won’t be lost. The drinks menu is short but also covers all the bases. Beyond what is listed, the guys who own and work in the joint are incredibly personable and know a lot about the local breweries, their products and how to make an inventive cocktail. Ask them about the sloe gins. The grey-haired dude(Stu?) even let us sample his favourite and most precious whiskey. My mate bought a bottle of locally brewed gin and the owners told us some funny jokes. Go here, you won’t be disappointed!

Not a bad spot for a glass of wine and a debrief… the staff are pretty familiar on occasion but i like that and head up when im in the mood. Always a good bottle of wine to taste or some crazy mix drink.

We had high hopes for Tasman Quartermasters but were ultimately disappointed. The«locavore inspired» nachos, spelt polenta cakes, sumac dusted chips and patatas bravas croquettes were all, to us, simply bland. I always try to eat dishes as a restaurant prepares them using only the condiments provided specifically with the dish, if any, but I found myself constantly adding salt, pepper and both of the table hot sauces to get any satisfying flavor out of what we ordered. Perhaps that was the key as the wallaby nuggets ordered by the patrons across from us smelled flavorful and pictures online of their burgers look wonderful but unfortunately we didn’t have either of them. If we’re ever in Hobart again I’d be willing to give this place another try given the acclaim this place has but as of right now I’m not impressed.

Such a great find on a quick business trip to Hobart — this place was welcoming, funky & delicious. So great to eat local and enjoy some Tasmanian wine, including a couple of delicious Pinot Noirs. Great vibe, amazing service!

You wouldn’t believe the meal you will get served up in this little street side bar. My husband and I went for a night and cosied up in the corner next to a funky lamp and were schmoozed by the delightful and exuberant owner(Stuart). Hubby drank a double IPA on tap that made him grin and no sooner had I uttered ‘I’m not sure what I feel like…’, Stu had brought a selection of whites out that he thought I would like and proceeded to entertain and educate us with his sommelier ways. We were laughing all the way to our starter of delicious walnuts, chorizo and apples that had been roasted and tossed together in a pan so the juices made us drool. The menu is ever changing but you will always have a selection of great beers, ciders and wines and food that is locally sourced and of the best quality. Hubby enjoyed a brisket on rye and I devoured a Cape Grim rump on brioche… the fillings to die for. I would recommend that no one go there and miss the triple cooked new potatoes that will take you back to every childhood memory of good fried food you have. And the brussel sprouts with Boks bacon… this is the only way to eat sprouts. Thanks for the great service and great night!

A little hide away pub with exquisite food. It’s relatively small which adds to the cosy atmosphere. I ordered the Octopus and Riesling, the chef was feeling creative and made this lemon/Shiraz jelly to go with the octopus which added a bit of extra bang to my bite. The staff are super friendly and always up for a nice chat, definitely enjoyed it and would come back! Recommend it to anyone that wants a little more then your regular pub food!

Even though partner and I aren’t young enough or hip enough to hang with the QM crowd, we keep going back. Love the food and fantastic welcoming attitude. One of Hobart’s little treasures.

Really super great food and drinks, created and served by super lovely humans. I can’t understand why more places aren’t using Sous Vide to guarantee exquisitely tender burgers every time. Seems like a no-brainier.

Stu and his team of magical elves keep me coming back… often with friends and out of towners, so I can nod knowingly and be all ‘Yeah, Hobart is where it’s AT.” While some people may choose a pub as a local, this is ours.(Although they’ve just added a bar with on-tap Iron House Beer and Willie Smith Cider — so it’s getting better every day) Delicious EVERYTHING. Seriously, we are here so often we try it all on the ever rotating menu. They are super accommodating of needs, whether it be Gluten Free, Vegetarian, Vegan or just don’t like the texture of tomatoes. They are also so spot on with service. When we first started going there they had a few flat out nights and to make up for the delay in our mains they provided us with a free entrée — we weren’t even complaining(or caring that the meals were late, tbh), but it is a gesture very much appreciated. If you’re lucky you may get to meet Kora — Stu’s companion canine.(More here: ) Don’t even consider anywhere else — if you’re looking for something to eat tonight, just go to TQ.

I love the Hobart trend of stalwart market stalls«upgrading» to brick and mortar venues, and TQ on Elizabeth is the latest one of those to grace our town. Stu and the gang have been blowtorching delicious burgers for longer than I’ve lived here and I’m glad to finally be able to get a TQ-made bacon fix whenever I’m craving it, not just at random times when I have to run all over the city to find the current festival or market where the torching’s happening. The burgers are what TQ’s famous for, but pair them with delicious shoestring fries and an exceptional beer and wine menu and you’ve got a near-perfect meal. Team that with the ridiculously comfortable leather couches upstairs and you’ve got your burger coma zone all set. Seriously, some friends and I spent a good four hours on those couches last weekend. Winners. Challenge yourself to three courses of burgers at TQ some time: a pork & apple slider entrée, followed by your choice of amazing burger for mains, and then an ice-cream slider for dessert. It’s real, people. And it’s real delicious. And get away from those couches, that’s MY spot.
