We really enjoyed the Henry Jones art hotel, which is located in a refurbished jam factory right on the waterfront. Our travel agent was able to get us a room on the second floor with a great view of the water. Oddly, our window looking out on the great view was dirty and could stand to be cleaned. The window also had a broken bar that had not been repaired. Despite those minor gripes, there were a lot of really good things about the hotel including interesting art pieces everywhere, a very generous shower and bathroom, and a comfortable bed. The location is excellent. We were able to walk to many of the restaurants and attractions that interested us. The front desk staff were helpful, although not entirely efficient or reliable(they told us they booked a reservation for us but the restaurant said we did not have a reservation). Breakfast was good though pricey, a statement that also captures our thoughts about the hotel.

Taste of history in its architecture with the combination of a modern clean cut look. Extremely convenient and a walk away from great restaurants and museum.

Ho hum coffee but super duper fast wi-fi…a balancing act… you can’t always have both but the accommodation rocks.

A really nice and imaginative renovation. The rooms are remarkable, huge and lovely and a little bit quirky and there is art everywhere! The bathroom appears to be a pod sent down by aliens but it is remarkably efficient and fun to be in. And they have free wifi(unlike most Australia hostelries)! Our only complaint was the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. The concierge never seemed to be at his/her post and the hotel operator never answered the phone so we had to go down to the front desk to request items. With the exception of a quick breakfast before leaving we did not try the food. The location cannot be beat for access to the waterfront, MONA and Salamanca.

Oh Henry Jones… you and your art and your fancy stuff… I’m in love! The Henry Jones Art Hotel is expensive, lets not mess about here but seriously it is worth it. Their attention to detail, the fantastic service and the gorgeous rooms are amazing. We stayed for a few nights for my husband’s birthday and we were treated to gorgeous cocktails in the bar as well as a total standout dinner in the restaurant. The access to the cute little cafes and coffee spaces makes staying here very, very easy. Splurge out for a special weekend, Mr Jones will not disappoint!

Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Every penny. This place is gorgeous. The old sandstone building invites you in. The friendly staff greet you. The Sidney Nolan(and other pieces) that adorne the walls flirt with you, the beautiful rooms with their exposed beams and gorgeous plush beds, ultra modern bathrooms romance you. This place really does have it all. IT is right on the water surrounded by the old IXL jam stores. It looks over the harbour to Salamanca which isabout a 10 minute walk away. Stroll along the waterside to Salamanca where you’ll find lovely bars and restaurants and on Sundays, the markets. Breakfast is a choice of a la cart or buffet($ 15 pp) or if you’re like me and can’t make up your mind you can have both for $ 22 or $ 25(can’t quite remember but thereabouts). IMHO this is the best hotel in Hobart. If you get the opportunity to stay here — do it.
