Assaggio’s is the special occasion restaurant of choice for my family, and for good reason. It’s so easy to say good things. The quality of food is fantastic. The menu doesn’t change much but it doesn’t need to. The service is astounding, with waiters remembering us even though our visits are annual at best. The atmosphere is perfect for family laughs, romantic evenings and quiet conversations. No idea how. Assaggios, I love you.

I’ve read and heard a lot about this and was stoked when we decided to go there for our anniversary. Unfortunately, things weren’t as great as I’d thought they be. It’s a small space and they’ve squeezed the tables in. Things are so tight that they can’t even leave the wine bucket at our table. Anyway, small space, large crowd, LOTS of noise. Don’t expect an intimate conversation. Actually, don’t expect any conversation until the crowd thins out. Service was excellent though. Our waiter, Angelo was keen, fun and led us to the most perfect Moscatto ever. All our servers were attentive, cordial and endearing. The food though… sigh…this was nothing special. It was a quality and quantity that you could find in restaurants much much cheaper. I’m sorry but that’s what we thought. In fact, the green apple sorbet and tiramisu were the only highlights. Also, beware of their plates and flatware. Huge pasta plates with rims so wide that you could stand on them. And the flatware has some strange triangular handles which won’t let you twirl your pasta. In fact, it all feels weird in your hands and diminishes the enjoyment of the meal. There are other places in Hyde Park that are cheaper and better. Look at those first and keep this place as a last resort.

Assagio is a family favourite for special occasions. The thing about assagio is that the quality of food and customer service has remained impeccable for a number of years — for as long as i can remember. This is where you come for dinner to celebrate; occassions, love, family and friends — it is an italian restaurant after all! The menu is just large enough with a wonderful slecetion of pasta as well as mains. All the entrées are wonderful so i would recommend the shared entrée of the chef’s selection to try a few, which usually includes the arancini, zuchinni flowers, calamari and gamberi. You’re glass will never be empty and you’re palate will be cleansed between meals with a delicious sobert. Ensure you complement your main with a side. The greens are buttery and delicious and the potatoes are the best you will ever have. No exaggeration. Those potatoes!!! Oh and the desserts? Ahmazing. if you can manage to squeeze one in after you’re meal absolutely do! It is difficult to go out for italian once you’ve experienced the food here Adelaide! In my opinion Vino of Unley Rd, Amalfi’s on Frome St and Assagio are the 3 best italian restaurants in Adelaide, but Assagio is where you go to have a truly exceptional experience with those you love. Buon appetito!

I don’t like down rating anywhere I’ve rated well in the past but while the service, value, and setting have remained great here I’ve seen the food quality drop off slightly. On my last visit the entrees in particular resembled the café offering Assaggio(in Newton) more than that which the actual restaurant has served up previously. There’s a significant price premium here and one I’m happy to pay given the food is a clear step up. The mains still shone. Lamb main and a chicken pasta was stand out. Wines on offer good as previously, entrees just didn’t hold up to the rest of the meal. Recommended.

I went with a group of 12 here for my 30th birthday on Saturday night for dinner. The group bookings manager, Grace, was very helpful in the lead up and they were happy to adjust their functions menu for me to include an additional course(I love pasta and therefore needed a full course devoted to pasta, hah). Everything on the night was perfect — all the food was amazing and my guests raved about each dish they had. The pork main in particular was a hit and the Panna Cotta was divine. They threw in some complimentary chocolates for me that they brought out on a plate saying happy birthday with a little flame and gave us the limoncellos some ordered at the end of the night on the house. We ended up being there for over 4 hours enjoying the night. Definitely recommend and will be returning.

If you haven’t been already I suggest you do. You won’t be disappointed. I have been to Assagio a few times but not for a while. I had forgotten how good it was. Brought our mums there for Mothers Day. Superb! Wonderful food… authentic italian flavors with a modern twist. There is nothing rushed or pretentious about the service… the staff are calm and professional. Okay it’s a little pricey but not much really. I’m willing to pay a little more for quality… and for food that is cooked better than what I can cook at home! The anti pasta platter is always a good way to start as you can try a selected variety of entrees. The sorbet cleanser is a nice touch and the deserts are beautiful. Yum and my renewed favourite. Just to confirm this review relates to the restaurant at Hyde Park(not café at Campbelltown which would receive a completely different review!).

Boys of Adelaide, you will score brownie points for taking your lady friend here. Assaggio is know for its dinner for two’s, super special wine list and fine dining fare and if price is not an option(hint: guys pretend it’s not if you’re serious about this gal) it will not let you down. As Deb mentioned, each dish is a piece of artwork. Fancy lines of sauce utilise blank space to contrast the composition of food on the other side of the line, almost making a commentary on life and its ability to make you walk the line between excitement and nothingness… Ok not really… The addition of spice, unique ingredients and fresh, house made pasta is really what turns you from admiring these simple dishes into having fulfilling, Harry Met Sally kind of moments at the table. I enjoyed the salt and pepper squid entrée and atlantic salmon with pea purée main. The menu does change seasonally, but I have to say that if you are not a big pasta eater, the seafood is definitely worth exploring on the menu. Table service is attentive but allows you to still play footsie, and you really do feel like you are being spoilt here by the pleasantries that the waiter takes time to enjoy with you before, during and after service. The atmosphere feels a little café-esque for a fine-dining restaurant, but with low lighting in the evening you should be too busy looking into your lover’s eyes to notice little details like that.

Although Assaggio is a bit pricey, you do get what you pay for here. All meals are presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. Each dish is almost an artwork! Our waiter on the night was great– there was friendly banter and many laughs between he and our group! I’d highly recommend going to Assaggio for special occasion celebrations!

First: the good. The young women who attended our table provided superb service. the food was exquisite. The bad: the older gentleman behind the bar thought nothing of showing his displeasure when our table of 5 was reduced to 3. I fully understand that the member of our party who made the booking, should have pre warned him of the late cancellation by one friend due to illness, and another because of a death in her family. It is very irritating when you set a table for a number of people and possibly have turned others away, to then find out that the booking has changed. I did however think that this man went out of his way to make us uncomfortable by his facial expressions and exasperated tone. He seized the opportunity at the end of the evening for payback, by refusing to change $ 20 for me, with the curt explanation that he did not have enough change. Really? All I wanted was a $ 10 note and two $ 5 notes, I was’t requesting coins! There are enough great restaurants in this city for me to be deterred from returning to this one because of this man’s manner. So all in all, great food but a bad taste in the mouth…

There is little to say about the quality of this place. It truly is Numero Uno. Recommend the seafood linguini, the lamb, and the panna cotta. And for those of you that believe it’s expensive — remember, you get what you pay for, which makes this place reasonably priced.

Expensive. The kind of place that I wouldn’t be able to go to very often, even if I wanted to. And I don’t particularly want to go back too often, either, because while it’s excellent, too much of a good thing takes a lot away from the experience. Normally, if I’m going to a nice place, I just order the pasta. It’s usually big enough, and it’s usually much, much cheaper. It’s a bit like having schnitzel at a pub. Well, if you haven’t been here before, just be advised that you might as well go for main, as even the pasta dishes are expensive. As it happens, I had a gnocchi dish which was beautiful, and completely filling. The service was excellent, as you’d expect. Will I be back? Maybe. I dunno. But it is good, I’ll say that much.

I would have to say that this place has definitely left a mark on me as a stand out Italian restaurant! I went to this place as a mini celebratory dinner with a couple of friends and we were all thoroughly impressed with the service of our waiter. He helped out decipher the menu and made fantastic recommendations for the three of us including a shared appetiser consisting of a variety of of delicious goodies, each more amazing than the last. While this place costs a bit more than many other italian restaurants out there… this is a good example of «you get what you pay for».

Assaggio has to be one of my favourite restaurants for special occasions. I have come here for most birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, everything. All the food is real and traditional Italian. The ingredients are extremely good quality, reflected by how expensive the meals are. They have a range of soups, entrees, mains, pastas, sides, palate cleansers and desserts. Surprisingly, for such a classy restaurant they also have separate gluten free and vegetarian menu, so everyone is catered for. My favourite dish has to be their gnocchi. It is served with asparagus, pea and brocollini in a rich cheese and cream sauce. It is absolutely mind blowing. The serving size isn’t particularly large, but because of how rich the meal is, you don’t need too much. Another one of my favourites is their dessert; Gelato Con Dolce Nero. It is the most amazing vanilla bean ice cream with a chocolate sauce. This is so special as anyone can serve vanilla bean ice cream, but none are as good as this. The restaurant is very expensive, so definitely go for very special occasions. As with all classy restaurants, you should book before heading in.

I make no secret of the fact I think the Italians(or Italy) do possibly the best food in the universe. It’s an art form for them and boy can you taste that love in it. It’s not always as good eating it in Oz, but Assaggio is just like mamma used to make in the homeland(not my mamma, I’m not Italian I just wish I was). The food here is quality, the menu extensive. It’s also at the pricier end but SO worth it. I say run, run, run to eat there. It’s so good I’m actually at a loss for words, it’s beyond description, one must experience it. Don’t take my word for it, just go, fork out the probably minimum 150 bucks a person you’re likely to spend, and be prepared to talk about it for years to come. In a nutshell — yes it’s that good!
