Australian Geographic Shop

This is the kind of store that delights kids and brings out the big kid in all of us. A business owned by the national science magazine, the shops offers a range of books, DVDs, toys, science kits, brain teasers, puzzles etc etc. I have fond memories of going here as a kid and trying out all the toys, from bouncy balls that lit up in spectacular way as they ricocheted around the room (much to the staff perturbation) or give myself tingles with those wire ‘scalp massagers’ which caused a full body sensation.
As a slightly more mature grown up I have found the place a great way to find gifts for my younger second cousins. They have all the sorts of stuff that kids go nuts over, like remote control helicopters, microscope sets and replica snakes and other creepy crawlies. There are plenty of things that adults will enjoy too — like nature documentaries, illustrated calendars and reproduced Aboriginal artifacts like didgeridoos.
It gets quite busy in here, especially around the Christmas period, so avoid the place if you don’t like crowds full of chaotic kids. But head in and have a play around and you’ll see why it’s easy to get stuck in there, no matter what age you are.
