This was my regular place to get breakfast when I worked in Karrinyup the build your own breakfast is reasonably priced only $ 8.50 for two eggs on toast and $ 3 for anything you add to that. This place is also licensed so if you go there for lunch you can enjoy a glass of wine, it is actually the only place in the whole of Karrinyup where you can get a drink– which I sometimes find necessary especially if you dare go to this shopping centre during the Christmas rage. It is a nice setting it’s usually quite full of housewives and older women but that’s Karrinyup for you. I love the feature wall paper of giant forks to me this symbolises breakfast. They do nice cakes and the BLT is reasonable.

Late night shopping can be a bit of a hassle, especially around Christmas time, parking is mayhem and the food court is hectic. For these reasons my mum and I decided to grab something to eat quickly at Café 34 as it seemed fairly empty and thought we would be in and out in no time. Little did we know that the service was shocking, we sat there waving for the waitress’s attention for a good 15 minutes, and that is after I already got up once to ask if I could order. Better yet, when our food finally arrived, my mums soup was cold and my salad was pretty bland, prices were average, but for just a few lettuce leaves and minimal slices of cucumber, my salad was certainly not worth $ 20. I will not be back here, I would rather fight the crowd at the food court any day.

Do you like to have a bit of a tipple while shopping? I know I do, but then I have a bit of a problem like that. Which is why places like Café 34 really do it for me. Between a visit to Dymocks and another to Coles, I can slip into 34 and down a Peroni or three. It takes the edge off. Seriously, though, this place seems to get right what so many shopping centre coffee shops – many of them chain stores – get wrong. Namely, it actually invites you in and makes you want to stay a while: you’d sooner sit down and read the newspaper than merely order something to go. It helps that it does good coffee, too. The baristas really know their stuff. Of course, being in the middle of a shopping centre doesn’t always work in the café’s favour. A table too near to the front can suffer from the general noise pollution of the complex. But there are plenty of seats towards the back that can help you to forget that you’re in a shopping centre at all: you’ll want to take your beer to one of the booths, to nurse it in between books and groceries. You’ll have to order a meal to get that beer, of course, but everything is prepared fresh on the premises. Probably you’ll just want something light. Café 34 certainly does a good scone.
